Replacing bonnet stripes when clear bra covers a portion of the old ones

I would like to replace the bonet stripes but the clear bra is on a section of the old ones. Can I remove the portion of the old stripes that is not covered then apply the new stripes over the clear bra and old stripe portion?

I've seen that tried and it looks pretty bad.

I may replace (or paint) my stripes in the near future and I am resigned to the fact that I will re-do the clear bra at that time.

If it was my MINI, I would leave the piece of old stripe under the clear bra and install the new one right on top of it. To be safe, I would probably order the stripes to be just a tiny bit wider than the original stripes. 1/2 inch wider would guarantee that the old stripe would be covered and nobody but yourself and those reading this thread would know that there was an old stripe hidden under there.

Strange...my dealer-installed clear bra was cut specifically so it did not cover the stripes.

You could get away with putting the new one over everything, but it would look terrible up close as the thickness would go down from 3 layers of vinyl to 1.

Wow, I have been wondering about this very issue. I am having both stripes and clear bra installed before I ever pick up my car, and wasn't sure whether they would put the stripes under or over the clear bra. I think I'll ask about the "cutting around the stripes" option. Does anyone else have theirs done this way?

stripes are relatively cheap. remove the old stripes and replace them. you may find you are fine with them.

otherwise, you'll have to remove the bra and start over. if you do, put the bra down first. there's hardly any reason (except this one) that you'd ever need to remove a clear bra. as you see, stripes may need replacing...
