somewhat OT, but do y'all dilute the stuff in the summer, or just pour straight from the bottle? In the winter, can't do that as it will freeze obviously, but wondering about the warmer time of the year, to make it go longer? I'm talking the regular blue stuff here, not the pink or RainX blends.
Tho' like kenchan, I rarely use it, to minimize window scratching....heck last 3 days I was waiting for the promised rain to clean off the window for me
I used to use the orange-ish RainX variety - but it actually stained some plastics and rubber. The wiper blades always looked dirty from the orange color. I liked how it worked, I just couldn't deal with the orange staining/residue it left. I'm back to just using the standard cheap blue stuff - red/pink in winter for the extra freeze protection.
For the headlight reservoir, I'm told that the stuff sold at the dealership is a different concentration (can't recall if it is more potent or less) than the standard fluid. They actually sell 2 different kinds. Of course they are also concentrated, so when mixing, you can dilute more or less as you desire.... The other thing is that their fluid is "fragranced" and the smell will "freshen" your interior. True, but silly IMHO.
Also, when going in for service they should top up these fluids for you - generally at no extra charge, since it is frequently built into their pricing. But if you are in for warranty service, it won't cost you a cent. ...Also remember to tell them your wipers are streaking so you can get the warranty-covered replacement blades.
I have been using the 20/10 concentrate for years with out a problem. No coloring so it doesn't stain the car and you can dilute to whatever mixture works for your area.
I use generic blue, with a rainx additive, about 50% more additive than is reccomended, I try to avoid using the wiper when possible. I also use the rainx wipes. Put simply no matter how much rain and I only need to flick on the wipers for extended journeys under 20 MPH. I also keep a spray window cleaner handy (not windex, comes from an arosol can and has a foam like quality, and by all indications has eliminated the pitting from the beach sand on the roads) and wash the windscreen every couple of days.
I do use the back regularly, its a hatch it always seems to have dirt water sand and salt on it.
