Just picked up a few things...

...from target. I got two 5 packs of microfiber towles for 8 bucks (14'' x 14''). Then I got a microfiber sponge for 3 bucks, and a california duster for 10...20 bones for some new car care products is a deal! Some were on sale at target. Might want to take a look! I'll post some pics after I wash her tomorrow. (It rained today! )

EDIT: Just realized I was in 5th gear!

Be careful with the microfiber towels from Target. IF you got the orange ones (made by Vroom I think, or something like that), they are not meant for polishing/wax removal - just general cleaning, i.e., door jambs, interior surfaces (dash/doors/seats), engine, wheels, etc...

I bought some of these for cleaning purposes because the bright orange color was so different than the usual white/blue which allows me to easily keep them separated.

However, they do have some nice grey ones at Target made by the same company that are made for for polishing/wax removal. But they only come 2 in a package.

I won't use the Target or Costco MF's on my exterior paint. I save them for clean up, door jams, etc. They didn't pass the scratch test on my black painted test panels.

If you are looking for some high quality microfiber, I'd suggest the Meguiars Supreme Shine. I think http://www.autodetailingsolutions.co...r%20Towels.htm has the best prices .

You should also check out your local stores for who carries VIKING products. They make super plush detailing towels as well as edgeless polishing towels. Check out the new laminated waffleweave for drying, too.

I think the main thing to look at is the fiber content (no not in your bran flakes)
But if you look at the tags, most microfiber towels say 60% Polyester/ 40% Cotton. Or %100 cotton. I believe most of these man-made fibers are more coarse than the natural fibers which may cause some scratching on the surface paint.
Anyway, this could be an old myth...but certainly worth the consideration when buying cheap or more expensive microfiber towels...

Most microfibers are a combo of Polyester and Polymide. The more polymide the more absorbant it will be. The best towels I have used are 70%/30%. But one of the most crucial differences is the weave pattern, the threads per inch, and the depth of the loops. The quality of the aformentioned can make all the difference in how the towels works for a particular job. (absorbsion, softness for QD'ing, more rigid for polishing/removing wax, etc.) Korean fibers are generally the best. Even many Chinese assemblers import thread from Korea to weave with. You have to know what your getting.

Actually, the man made fibers are far better than, say, cotton. The fibers can be hundreds of times smaller individually and sewn many hundreds and sometimes thousands of more threads per inch. They are also more resiliant so they transmit less pressure against the paint lessening the chance at scratching.

It's easy to think that polyester is bad (it is, in raw form) because the polyester we are all accustomed to is a very coarse, heavy thread. But MF technology changed all that.

Some friends toured a MF factory's in China and Korea and brought back a lot of info. It was impressive and educational.

Check out some pics here at the John Bull Garage and look at the blog for their mascot Winston, who travels the world! Click on his Shanghai link.
