fixing dash scratches

I scratched the red plastic on the passenger side of the dash today with a vacuum. It didn't scratch the paint, but left marks in the clear coat or whatever is protecting it. I tried the MINI plastic cleaner on it, but that didn't get rid of them. I was thinking about trying NuFinish or a polish, but I don't know if that would just make it worse. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

I would use some compound, and then wipe it off and after cleaning it up with some windex use some wax on it. It really depends on how deep the scratch is. The method i wrote worked on mine, i have HB dash and it took care of couple of scratches on the dashboard, worked on mine. You need to be very careful applying the compound tho, since it is plastic trim. If it is a very minor scratch, it should work.

It is pretty minor. It's hard to see unless you look at it and there is a lot of light. I'll try to get some pics of it tomorrow. At a glance you probably wouldn't notice, but I know they are there so it makes it easier for me to spot.

I would treat it like I'd treat my paint: start with as easy going of a polish as I can, see if it works, and go more abrasive if needed.

I'd do it with a clean cotton or microfiber towel. I'd even finish it off with some QD.

If it really is only through the clear, then get some Meguiar's ScratchX

http://www.meguiars.com/?auto-paint-cleaners/ScratchX

Squirt some on a foam applicator pad, and rub like mad, until the white stuff turns clear. Wipe it off immediately, and look--is it still there? Then repeat the process up to 4 or 5 more times.

It should be gone, and you should be sweating profusely. If you aren't sweating and your fingers aren't sore, then you aren't rubbing hard enough!

Richard

I might have to check Autozone to see if they have some of that. If I did it right now I would be sweating for sure...it's 82 degrees!
