Zaino problems?

I gotta ask this before i lay any Z2 to prep the paint for winter

is there ANYTHING that lasts longer on the MINI's rear and below the beltline? ive never ever seen Z2 last more than a month in the back... id love to seal the paint in tonight...

also, will multiple coats reinforce the first layer to better the shielding on the mini? or would it just add shine without any extra protection?

otherwise.. ive seen something called NuFinish at the local store... anyone used it before?

You gonna put down some Z5 first?? I would think that layerin git up woul dprotect it longer. Being in AZ I don't have the winter troubles you are gonna have, but I haven't touched my boot in the 2 months I have had it Zaino'd and the last wash it beaded up like crazy.

Mine has 2 coats Z5 and 2 coats of Z2 on the boot. The hood and roof all have 4 coats of Z2 in addtion to the Z5. I quick detail with Z6 about 1 time per week and dust every other day with a Cali' duster.

On a side note I do use NuFinish on my wife Passat (leased car almost up and don't want to "waste" the time/money on Zaino). It seems to work great. I put on one coat, Let it cure for 2 weeks (the bottle says 30days) and then put on a second coat.

I've used NuFinish for over 20 years. Have used it on cars and boats. It does just what it says. Consumer Reports rates it very high. I just got through putting on my MINI and am very pleased. Also used it on the wheels and the brake dust does not accumulate like other wheels I have seen. I think you will be very pleased.

well i do put on Z5 in the summer, but since its winter my primary concern is protection, not scratch covering...

i might try the nufinish in that case in the winter then... perhaps i'd get great results...

I've never seen anything give longer lasting results than Zaino. Layering will add protection. A blast with Z6 or the new Z8 every now and then will help.

Keep layering is all I can say. The more coats the better the protection!

i dunno.. zaino lasts very long on the not so contact heavy areas like the roof, above the belt line, and most of the horizontal areas of the hood.. however, after about 2-3 months of usage... water starts to sheet on the tailgate as well as the side of the car below the belt line, most commonly just ahead of the rear tires...

my process everytime with zaino is just dawn, clay, wash with z7, then layer with Z2 and ZFX mix...

is it possible to re-do zaino without dawning? i mean say in january when i cant use the hose at the house... nor can i spend 3 hours at the coin-op car wash?

You know I think you're doing the best thing possible. Try getting on as many coats of Z2 as you have time for (and use the gloss between applications). How much time do you have? I mean with the accelerator and some friends to help you could get ten coats on in one session. And, what better test of a friendship than to subject someone to Zaino duties?

As I've said before, my main gripe with Zaino is that it's just not that appetizing. Zymol goes down way better, with no astringent after-feeling. It's late, and perhaps I shouldn't be posting. But NAM asked me to...

And, yeah, I only dawned once. At the very beginning. Even with claying now, I wouldn't precede the whole process with dawn. Dawn once in your life, as long as you keep up with washings/cleanings. I must have 20 coats of Z2 built up from 18 months of being a Zaino freak.

By the way, I'm from Toronto. Moved away, far, fartin' away. To Texas.

Ya don't need the dawn anymore. It won't take the Zaino off anyway. You only use this to prep a finish that has had another wax like a carnuba based on prior to Zaino.

I just wash, claybar, and re-apply> I never really consider myself back to square one unless I have run the PCDA on the whole surface. (At least that's what I am told).

So you shoul dbe best off with doing a layer or 2 of Zaino every month or so this winter. It should work great. Also, be careful with the "buddy" sessions. Even with ZFX the reqs from Zaino are no more than 3 coats in a 24 hour period otherwise it does't cure properly.

Woops, Joel is right. Apply no more than 3 coats in one sitting. Now you have to have your friends sleepover and stick 'em with more Zaino duties the next day.
