Used a buffer for the 1st time

I used my new buffer for the first time today. I was very impressed with the results.

I used some Meguiars #2 swirl remover on some light swirls on my bonnet and rear bumper, they are now gone.

The NXT wax really turned out nice after buffing.

But what really inpressed me was what the swirl remover and the buffer did to my 94 Dodge Dakota truck. I practiced on it with the buffer, before working on my MINI. I have never waxed it in 6 years, so it was poor condition.

On the left, the area I worked on

The door was repainted last summer, the quarter panel has seen nothing but washing. I worked the top of the panel, and it matches the new paint now.

Now I guess I have to do the whole truck

Wow! Great going! That's impressive. Now you have to do the whole truck.

Looks like you are getting the handle on it pretty quickly!

I did this to my Altima last year... it only took 15-18 hours, but it wass worth it (plus time with a buffer, a car, a beer and some tunes is very theraputic).

Did you use #9 after #2? I thought #2 was fairly aggressive. Used it on my well used CRX and it removed a lot of paint. Looked like crap until I used #9.

Porter Cable. 5 inch, dual action. Variable speed.
Delta tools just bought Porter Cable, but seems they are going to keep the lines seperate.

Great job Mark!

Yeah I think you mean Meguiars #9 aka Swirl Remover 2.0

That's a very mild product that works well. You will get similar results with #80 Speed Glaze or #83 DACP (Dual Action Cleaner Polish).

These are my staples with the PC.

The primary difference between #83 and #80 is in the amount of swirl removing capability--its almost twice as coarse--we are talking from a microscopic level. You cannot feel the grit in your hands.

Oh Geez, this happens to me EVERY time I start thinking I can "live with" certain minor flaws...

I see a pic or 2 like LOT15's and my credit card starts jumping out of my wallet again... I just can't make that "jump" and the the doggone buffer.

Mrs Tatt already thinks I'm obsessive about my MCS:

(Mrs Tatt): "Hon I think you need a new hobby"
(Tattman23 working on the bonnet with a nice waffleweave): "Bah!"

Anyhow, that looks really good. The difference is very dramatic, between the 2 panels. Don't you sort of want to leave one unbuffed, since when it's ALL shiny, no one will know it was ever any different?

Go White Sox!
Tatt

PS I love her and am only poking fun at her in the most affectionate way!

Here's a 2005 Hyper Blue MC that I buffed out a few weeks ago. Shine is NXT Tech Wax.

A license plate on the freeway got kicked up and hit the roof of the poor MINI. I buffed it out with a rotary--got it 100% out.

Here is my portable detailing kit

That's a Makita Rotary Buffer on top and a PC with a MF bonnet below it. Everything I need to buff out a car and remove scratches.

Very happy I took the plunge
