Yet another Zaino ?

So if I decide to switch camps over to Zaino and want to apply a topper of P21S do you have to continue with the P21S and Carnuba QD like when I used the Klasse twins.or just leave off the Carnuba P21S .

Or am I missing something .?

QD Material must match top layer. Use a Carnauba finish QD on Carnauba, and so on. You already know to put the Carnauba on top of the polymer, so you should be good, I'd say.

As always, test an inconspicuous spot first.

Cheers,
Matthew Z.

Thank You for the reply

So in reality you do away with the build up properties of the Zaino.
Thats what I was trying to clarify.

curious....haven't used zaino ever but am about to.....why would you want to top the zaino with carnuba and isn't the fact that you can layer the zaino a good thing as it gives extra protection?

You can top Zaino with P21S and use a QD for carnuba as mentioned above.

If you want to apply more layers of Zaino after the carnuba, you will have to Dawn wash, but you probably already knew that.

For some, the highly reflective shine of Zaino looks a bit sterile... It just doesn't have the richness on some colors that I'm looking for... esp. the very dark colors. My wife's SUV is dark metalic blue and I love the look of it with several coats of Zaino topped with P21s. I've also decided that, for an SUV, it's entirely too much work to use a wax topper and I just stick with the protection and high shine of Zaino. On a lighter colored car, you would probably never even notice this effect.

Yes.
Another downside of using a carnauba topper is that you will not be able to maintain the Zaino slickness as easily. You, in fact will have to QD more often and even then you will have to wax more often. So, what's the point of having the Zaino underneath at all....I guess you do have the benefit of the protection when the carnauba wears off in a few weeks. Be sure to use a carnauba shampoo as well. The Zaino shampoo will be too strong for most carnaubas.

I went through this phase...testing and mixing. Was more successful with the Klasse because it didn't have as many benefits as Zaino. Found in general it wasn't worth it with Zaino. The compromises of the mix outweighed the special benefits, IMO, of Zaino. (ease of maintenance of slickness of feel and gloss)

Thanks Mr agranger for the p21s explaination.
Of Course with a BRG/BRG I guess you could call that dark ,and man it does gleam rich with the P21S as a topper over Klasse . So I`m in a bit of a quandry on what to do, not ever seeing a BRG/BRG with 100% Zaino Treatment. The options I guess are in my court . All I know is I got to get more protection ,because I don`t want to go through the fix for the burned in bird turd every time our feathered friends decide to take a dump.

option 1 :
strip old protection(1 year coming up fast ) and re- Klasse twins And because its not really a build up system apply the P21S more regulary*often*.

option2 :
again strip back and go 100% Zaino NO Topper .

I feel as Brad does in regards to the topper over Zaino.
I`m just unsure how the 100% Zaino will look over what it does now ,in depth and richness.

oppinions would be welcome .

You can have the P21s if you want...
  1. Do several layers of Zaino of protection... I like to have 2 layers of Z5 and at least one of Z2 as a minimum.
  2. Top with P21s for richness and color
  3. QD with a carnuba spray
  4. Every month (or however often you want) retop p21s
  5. Every 6 months or so, Dawn wash and add a few layers of Zaino and P21s top again.
Now Brad will argue (and rightly so) that this defeats one of the coolest aspects of Zaino... that dirt, bird poop, bugs etc. slide off of a Zaino surface with very little effort. I'm still amazed at how good my car looks after a rain-free week (happens regularly in Texas summer) when I didn't even QD.

I'll argue that the P21S topper gives you a richer color on a dark car... you just have to decide if you want richer color (subjective) for the few days after you detail (carnuba topper plan) or if you want a slicker top finish that is easier to maintain (Zaino only).

If I had a trailer-queen car... one of those that is 99.9% parked in a air-conditioned garage and gets trailered (in an air-conditioned trailer) to shows, I would be very tempted to do the P21S topper treatment. It was a cool experiment and I loved the immediate result. Since all of my cars are driven regularly in a dusty Texas environment, I've since given up my carnuba-topping ways and gone to all Zaino. I take the time I would have spent topping with carnuba and layer on 2 coats of Zaino Z2... Slick, easy to clean and very shiny.
