Cleaning non-glass rear window in convertibles

My wife just purchased a 2000 Z3 and the rear window isn't glass. Is there any special chemical that can clean it up a little? It's not bad, I would just like to see if there is something that can make it a little more clear.

To make this MINI related, while driving, my wife said she will be wearing her North American Motoring cap that she purchased at the dragon. She doesn't normally wear caps but she does this one every weekend :smile:

Any convertible we owned in the past without a glass window, I was told NEVER to use anything to clean it except water. We made a habit of that years ago...just my 2 cents...

Having owned many convertibles over the years with plastic windows - from Triumph TR 2's, 3's and 4's to Porsches, they can absolutely be cleaned. Go to any reputable mortocycle shop and buy a can of plexiglass cleaner. I think the last stuff I bought was Plexol (sp?). The motorcycle guys use this stuff to clean their plexiglass windscreens all the time. Not only will it clean the "glass", but I found it seems to take out some of the small scratches too. If you have a friend who works on military aircraft, the stuff they use to clean canopies works great too.

Another thimbs up on PLEXUS. I used it weekly on my Boxster with a clear plastic window. 4 years old and it looked like showroom new. Autopia sells it.

My wife has a Jeep. The key to cleaning the windows is to blow off as much grime with the hose first, then use lots and lots of cleaner.

I have used several types including 409, just make sure it is totally flooded. Then I take a clean terry towel, and wipe in a straight line across the shortest part, turning to a new, clean section of towel for each wipe (I also try to kind of twist/scrunch the towel as I go so that the grit is not ground into the plastic as I go).

Then I follow with a second wipe down with not as much cleaner.

Also, you need to become one with the fact that the window will get scratched some, there is no way around that.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll give these ideas a try and see what turns out. Being 5 years old it has its usuall scratches. I would like to prolong the life of it. Thanks again. :smile:
