Clear Coat Scratch Issues

Ok, so I browsed the threads and now am more confused then I started...

So based on the recc from BradB in another thread I checked out the 1Z here:

http://store.yahoo.com/autopia/1z-930606.html

It then states:

Quote:
NOTE: Einszett Extra Paint Polish is not recommended for use on new cars or cars with good paint condition. Ultra Paint Polish is a paint restoration product. If your paint is in excellent condition, try Einszett Paint Polish or Metallic Polish.
So which one do I get, or should I stick with the 3M Finesse It as also recommended? The car is currently covered in Klasse and the other thread mentioned that the scratch remover would cut through the wax so no need to worry about removing wax. BUT, do I reapply the wax to that specific area and then go along my merry way? Anything I need to do to the "scratched" area after all is well? Wash it I assume, then apply the wax? Will claybar perhaps in a month the entire car...

So here is the rundown...

Wash Car
Dry Car
Apply Scratch Remover Product (Back and Forth only, using foam applicator)
Wash Scratched Section
Apply Klasse

Also, which Zaino product would I apply on top of the Klasse to give it more punch, or is Klasse not a good wax for that? Trying to add the Zaino products slowly as I already have some products I want to finish up with, thus the Klasse.

TY In Advance!!!

Autopia.com has forums in which car detailing fanatics are ready to answer your every question in much more detail than mortals generally want. They have a great (and picture intensive) FAQ section that you ought to check out. pb

What the 1Z warning means is that Ultra is a coarse polish and is used for "damaged" paint. Not just light swirls or mars or paint that just needs a little extra pizzaz. This is used to remove "scratches". I don't know how bad your scratch is.

To finish the job you DO need something finer after using Ultra to bring the paint to a high luster.

Finesse It is finer than Ultra. It can remove some scratches, too. But takes more work to do so. If you have a dark color paint you may need to follow FI with a swirl remover to bring the paint to it's ultimate luster.

You could also consider the Sonus line which is a very well balance 1-2-3 steps. 1 is sort of like the Ultra. Easy to use, takes out scratches and swirls quickly. 2 is a finer mix and on its own can remove fine swirls and will bring things to a high luster. I rarely need 3 but it is a nice paint cleanser that really can bring out a super gloss.

These are well balanced because the abrasive levels work well together and are easy to get good results from. I have had quite a few "newbies" in my detailing classes get better results from this combo than many others. I just ordered three more sets of bottles last week for demos. I hate to use this terminology but this stuff is pretty much idiot proof! (use a foam pad)

Your procedure looks fine, but you don't need to apply Klasse UNDER Zaino. Klasse is not as durable as Zaino so you will be compromising the durability by putting a durable sealant on top of a less durable sealant. (Zaino is only as good as its base. It's base should be "Paint" not another wax.)

Hey, thanks for the tips...

I will go with the Sonus because I can be an idiot. The scratches are like someone rubbed against the car 3" by 2" area when there was dirt on the car. More of a scuff appearance then a scratch I would say.

I already have Klasse on it and was looking for something to place on top of the Klasse to give it more shine/depth etc..., as I have two "jugs" of the Klasse to use up before I move to Zaino. So my plan was to leave the Klasse on for a few more months, but after my next wash I wanted to add a top coat, so was going to use a Zaino product. Is the Sonus Acrylic Glanz the only offering of a topcoat for the Klasse? Or should I go with a Zaino product?

Yes, I think you would be far happier playing with the Acrylic Glanz. It will add more POP and some added protection, too. And you use it like a quick detailer, OFTEN...so it keeps the surface slick and glossy.

I would clay soon. You would be AMAZED what a difference that will make to the feel of your paint. It's a HUGE difference. It will just abrade the Klasse a litte, not remove it entirely. It's fast and easy. Not a big deal at all. Get one of the cheap kits!
