cleaning plastic fender extensions

After searching for quite some time I am not finding ways to clean and treat the plastic fenders. After waxing the fenders will be white and it needs to be removed. Does everyone tape off the flares??? What do you use to protect the plastic when you are done cleaning??

Peanut butter will get the wax off. Polishing or waxing the black trim always has to be masked off. Standard blue painters tape works fine though a PIA but better than having to clean up afterwards. Once you've got them cleaned up, Black Wow is the best treatment for them hands down. A very tiny amount goes a long way.

Skip the wax and buy yourself a good synthetic sealant. Zaino Z2 or Menzerna Powerlok are very popular and don't stain plastic trim. Lasts much longer than wax too and doesn't cost much more. Then you can skip the masking headache.

When I bought my 2007 Mini, the plastic fender flares were dull and kinda gray. I talked to a friend of mine who restores cars and he said to use Trim Restorer by Turtle Wax. Pretty much wipe on and wipe off. Ez to use and inexpensive, I think I spent less than four dollars at Walmart. It didn't take much to make them black again. It,s been at least two weeks and a couple of downpours and they still look awesome. I would highly recommend this product.

You need to come back in after 3 or 4 months for an update on that to let us know how it holds up. I just re-applied Black Wow a month ago from a late January application and they weren't too bad up till then.
I started out with Mother's Back to Black and it was good for only 6 to 8 weeks.
The amount used per application of Black Wow is a big difference as well. A dot of Black Wow not much bigger than the size of the O in QUOTE is all that's needed to cover 2 or 3 feet of trim.

I use the Meguiar's brand and it seems to last pretty long. However, it seems to attract dust pretty easily and it seems like you need to use a lot of it to maintain a consistent appearance.
I'd like to try the Black Wow and see how it works.

I'm gonna recommend a product I bought to protect my 2000 jeep wrangler's (molded plastic) "hardtop". I factory ordered it in 1999 and the painted top faded from UV sun exposure over time. Instead of repainting, I removed, sanded, masked and had Line-X spray coating applied many years ago. Another Line-X dealer I did business with later on recommended the product linked below, which has worked great. I'm also using it on my truck in a specific location which is likewise bedliner coated (OEM F-150 Raptor side boards). I haven't yet tried it on my MCS but believe it will have similar results. The stuff applies as milky slightly sticky solution which dries in semigloss finish without greasy look or residue. Its only available online direct or stocked by a few west coast Line-X dealers. Try it - you just might like it!
