When in doubt, try WD40 (one of man's better inventions...).

First my disclaimer: I haven't had to remove sticky stuff from the part you mentioned, so can't give you a tested and proven answer, but...here is some general advice I hope helps.

Start with the mildest solution and work up to stronger solvents only after you have determined that the milder approaches don't work. Test, if possible, on a similar part that is not as visible in case the stuff you use causes discoloration or other bad results.

With that in mind, 2 products I have used well on all kinds of sticky stuff are Goo Gone and Goof Off, both available in hardware stores. Goo Gone is fairly mild and works most of the time on all kinds of sticky, gummy residue on lots of different surfaces. Goof Off is much stronger stuff and I would only use it when Goo Gone doesn't work and when I'm willing to take the risk of bad side-effects like discoloration. Another idea is WD-40, which some say works a lot like Goo Gone, but I have not tried it myself.

Hope this helps.

Isopropol alcohol (rubbing alcohol) is a staple in a detailers cabinet. It will take the rest of the residue off. It's available at the pharmacy for 50 cents.

It's harmless to paint and plastic.
