I took my MINI in for a melted hood scoop and badging error this weekend, and I mentioned the cosmoline stains on the front wheel arch. They wiped it with something that covered it up well unless viewed from the side, but one side was dramatically more improved than the other. When I asked him to ask the shop guys what they used they said a product called molding renew. I cant find any product named that specifically, but i was rather impressed with its effectiveness. Anyone got any clue what it was? I found a Black Renew. Could this be it?
I think Detailers Paradise has something coming out soon to eat cosmoline, but I haven't seen it yet.
Personally, on the paint I use Klasse All in One to remove cosmoline. On the arches and other platicy parts, i use Klasse as well, then Mothers Back to Black. I haven't found a "cleaner" that works well on it yet, at least one that I feel comfortable using on the MINI.
Back to your molding renewer, it contains dye... I wouldn't use it, personally.

A 50/50 Solution of Simple Green, Clean Terry Towel, scrub a bit, then use BW, or Back to Black or whatever!! Under the hood spray the solution on the cosmoline you can see, let it set a couple minutes, then wipe off.

I had them on my new Mini. I think I just used some simple green MAX, a degreaser. The stains were gone.

I used Simple Green and it would remove the non baked on stuff, but we had a good deal of heat the first couple weeks i owned the car and it got very baked on. Everything i've read says once its baked on its permanent. It seems covering it up is about the only choice I have. It seems to have done the trick as far as that is concerned. Ive been cleaning unreal amounts of cosmoline from my hood for the past 2 months and its still coming out, but im staying on top of it.
