How to fix paint etched by bug guts... :(

I didn't realize that bug guts etched paint if left there for too long. I dont recall this happening before, i was always able to remove the bugs without trace.

Now my beautiful hood has raised imperfections that I can't remove with even my fingernail. It looks horrible.

How do I fix this as it is driving me crazy. :(

Well, we carry an Aqua Cloth in our Mini during the "BUG" season. When we r done driving for the day we use this to wipe the bug remains off the front area. Works for us. Not sure what u can use now to remove the imperfections. Good Luck.

you're saying the paint is raised? like corrosion under the paint?
if so, you're going to have to remove the paint and have it repainted/
touched up.

on the cars i care about ( ) i remove bug guts
right away after the drive each time using SpeedShine.
i keep a good coat of SprayOn Wax on there from Griots
for the super slipperyness especially during the warmer
months.

From what I know (which ain't much), it is hard. To repair, if it hasn't damaged the paint too much, you're going to need to buff down a little to minimize the appearance of it (depending on how bad it is will depend on the success.

Best is prevention, keep a good LSP on it and take of the buggies as soon as possible. IME, a little marring from a QD and MF is better than etched clear.

If the paint is not raised, try claying the area, alcohol mixed 50/50 with water, WD-40, bug remover stuff, long list of things. But if none of these work, you may need to have the area repainted, or at least buffed with a rotary.
