That happens when you limit yourself to one kind of product and think that all products perform the same under those circumstances. Car wash soap, or the water left on a wet freshly washed car work well for experienced detailers, i.e. the ones that know which types of clay break down and which ones won't.
It's best to use the lube that works well for your favorite clay.
