I use Scratch X on my 2007 Chili Red MCS. It's the only thing I've used that works on the invisible shield protection on the hood. Other stuff (including plastic polish) hazes up.
For everything else I use Swirl.

Are you polishing by hand ?
Time to get a PC Buffer and use polish that is not so abrasive like Scratch-X. That stuff is good for spot-use on tough spots like bird crap.
If you want a good protection for your paint while getting a deep, reflective shine.... Prima Swirl, Prima Amigo, two layers of Epic, let it cure at least one day between layers, let it cure another day, and top it off with Prima Banana Gloss.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
And here's another shot... except this is a pic of the door of my Jet Black MINI, the CR Cooper is a reflection. Also use the same products on the Jet Black MINI.

That is sweeeeeeet. Hey I've got the white bonnet stripes, do I need to work around those, or should I just treat them like paint when it comes to Epic/Banana/Hydro?
Go Eagles!

Care for your stripes like you do your paint... BUT...
Be careful if you're using a PC buffer. Go over the stripes less agressively than you would the paint (I use only the mild polish on the stripes) and make sure you either tape the edges or stay away from them with the buffer. You never want to go against an edge of your vinyl for fear of lifting it up (even if you can't see it with the naked eye). You don't want dirt and stuff to build up under an edge.
And thank you for the compliment.

HAHAHAHA !! You must be talking about the pic I posted early in the thread.
Funny thing... I've had people accuse me of photoshopping or using filters on that pic. I wish I knew how to do that stuff. Nope, pic was taken with a cheap digital camera after a full detailing. I must say, a lot of the allure of that pic has to do with the sun being in the right position. Chili Red looks dull and orange if you take a pic with the sun at the wrong angle. Prima products and my PC buffer gets the rest of the credit.
Thanks for the hilarious compliment.

Shwoo! I hadn't looked at this thread for a few days and WOW... it became a little kookie there for a bit. I'm glad to see that we're back on track with answering the original question.
However, there are a few thoughts I'd like to share about some of the discussions in this thread, if I may... - Although this forum is not moderated, I've always been proud to be part of a forum that historically hasn't needed much moderating! I think that most of the time everyone here has been very cordial and respectful towards each other. I know that there is alot of craziness and extra stress in our world these days
but let's work together on keeping what can sound like personal attacks at bay. This includes proofreading your posts before hitting submit... I think that often we're hasty in our typing and tone and words can come out wrong if we're not careful. I think that most of the negativity that comes up from time to time just stems from misinterpretations & misunderstandings. Tone is hard to convey in a casual communication medium such as a forum but it can be conveyed pretty well with carefully chosen words. - I also think that this should DEFINITELY be a place where anyone can share personal preferences at any time. That said, I think it is fair for someone else to ask to have the preferences explained... not because one owes the other an explanation but simply because that is how the rest of us can all learn from these shared experiences. Likewise, if a statement of fact is made without supporting evidence then someone can ask for sources of the information, etc. That seems only fair. However, again, we should be careful that the tone we use is not challenging but rather inquisitive. We have all made statements that we thought were facts only to find out that there is more information out there... again, we should be here to share all this great collective info we have to offer each other.
 - Regarding OctaneGuy's opinion of Prima as a professional detailer and also a retailer of Prima, I'd like to note that before he ever sold Prima he used it for quite some time. In fact, at first he was quite a tough sell because he was already using stuff he liked. Then he discovered some of the advantages of Prima and he began using it more and more. Then, and only then, did he apply to become a Prima retailer. I think it might be useful to understand the timing of those events in as one evaluated OctaneGuy's opinions of Prima.
Regarding professional detailers who use Prima... I agree with MiniMaybee that, unfortunately, there are more professional detailers out there who aren't interested in doing a high quality job than those who are. There are several exceptions though. There are some pros who really do an excellent job and who do care about quality. I'm proud to say that several professionals who are of this caliber do use Prima. Not only NAM's very high caliber professional detailer, OctaneGuy, but others as well. Check out the May issue of Classic Motorsports magazine for a great writeup about Tim McNair and the products he uses. Tim uses Prima almost exclusively and prepares cars for Pebble Beach and Amelia Island. His most recent winning cars at these prestigious concours events were detailed with Prima products. He's also the detailer for the Simone Museum in Philadelphia. (see Nick's earlier post about a 1938 Delahaye 135MS HERE) Pretty neat stuff.
Sorry for posting off the original topic of this thread but I feel strongly about keeping this forum a useful and educational place, not to mention fun!
That's all I wanted to say. Thanks for listening. Now back to the original question again...
-Heather

Meguires ?
I have been detailing cars for over 30 years and have tried them all. From California to Germany. Zaino by far is the BEST of them all.n It is like adding more layers of clear coat to the finish every time I use it.
Zaino.bmp
http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc
Even after driving in the rain, when I park the MINI in the garage, there are no water spots left on the surface.
No more heavy difficult buffing, waxing. One round with the clay bar, some Z5 swirl remover, wash with Z7, and spritz with Z6 and wipe down, that simple and easy. After that just continue with washing with Z7, dry surface and spritz with Z6 which has the consistency of water. After using this stuff, the cloth goes across my body decals like they are not even there. I highly reccomend this product for anyone with side, bonnet and boot decals as this product and application method does not turn up decal edges ect. Instead makes them more durable.

Go to their website ??
Who wants to see Ferraris and Lambos ? I want to see YOUR MINI.
And no, I don't want any GEICO ads, either.

Here, I'll save you the trouble.
Nice MINI... not sure if you used Zaino products on it just before this pic. It looks clean, but hard to get DS to be reflective and show a deep shine. Maybe someone else can post pics of a CR with Zaino.
Ps. Still have the stripes on the boot or did you go ahead and take them off ?

Scatch -X isn't very abrasive, it breaks down with use, it's a great overall hand and PC polish. I use Swirl in other places and I think it's a great product. Yes, I do have a PC and use it all the time.

Explain "breaks down with use". I thought polishes were supposed to break down, or become less abrasive as they were worked.

Hey, Mark... since you've worked with both Zaino and Prima products, do you have a preference, and why ?
And to the Scratch-X user... you use that with your PC Buffer ? Never heard of anyone doing that.

I find the Prima line of products to be more complete, and less complicated to understand. That said the end results are more or less the same, and the durability is the same. The main difference for me is the customer support that Detailers Paradise offers both one on one, and here to the membership of this forum .
jimmieshear, this is a forum about helping each other, so it tends to be more helpful to explain a statement, rather than just make one without explaining what your talking about. I don't need an explanation on how/why polishes work, but others may.
Mark

I don't know what you mean by explain my statement. There's been some rather odd focus on why I use Scratch X. So I guess if that's the question, even though it hasn't been asked, I'll explain. Oh one other thing so there's not "More" confusion, I don't endorse this stuff, in fact I prefer Prima's great products. I use Swirl and Amigo followed up by Epic, with regular washing followed by hydro.
I use it on my invisible bra on the car. I have a full hood wrap that doesn't take kindly to most of the polishes I use. Scratch-X appears to be the only thing in my garage that doesn't add a weird haze to the finish. I've used Swirl before, but had to finish up with Scratch-X (by hand) to remove the odd haze from the finish.
As far as the info on "Scratch-X" that came from a DVD I got my hands on. I think it was from Car Care Garage or something like that. The guy had some great tips on how to hand polish (using Scratch-X) and how to polish using the PC. There's numerous web-sites that have similar information regarding Scratch-X and it's "diminishing abrasive breakdown". If that's the info you're looking for.

I've never had a problem with hazing from using any of the Prima products, and that includes using it on my clear bra.
Which film do you have on your MINI ? I have the 3M brand.

Sounds like you got my DVD...How to use the PC for Show Car Results. It was made by the joint venture company I had back then called Show Car Garage..which became Show Car Detailing after Mike, the host on the video, stayed with Meguiar's.
http://www.showcarsupplies.com/shopexd.asp?id=62&bc=no
And once and for all, this is a DETAILING FORUM. Please learn to spell names (not aimed at any one person). It's MEGUIAR's. Not Macguires or anything else. I know it's difficult to remember, but is IS important.
In fact it's VERY important because I love it when I read someone that says they use or have used Meguiar's polishes for years. I have to ask..which polish was that? None of their consumer polishes were formulated for machine use until a few years ago when ScratchX was changed. Prior to that...the Deep Crystal polishes were hand applied paint cleaners.
If you're considering to use M80...I say forget it. Either go to M205 or Prima Swirl..both are superior to the M80/M83 products.
I prefer Swirl over M205...but everyone has their preferences.
As for the comment about Zaino...it's good stuff to make paint very slippery and very mirror like...but it's just not that great for making paint look it's best..unless you think black paint is supposed to look look white because it's so reflective.

Yes I know...I need to have more manufactured. In the process of doing so. Last production run I made...the existing files got lost during a hard drive failure...I needed to update some content because it still shows my old company...ShowCarGarage on it....anyways. We're a couple weeks out.
I've got like 4 DVD's in stock. 3 have been requested for via PM's, though I haven't responded yet to all of them. I will get back in a bit...just got too much stuff going on right now.

Any way you could make an mp4 out of it, say, formatted for the iPod touch/ iPhone and sell it that way ? I know I'll definitely put your video on my iPhone so that I don't need a laptop next to me once I start polishing on the first week-end of May
just an idea, dunno how feasible it is.

I've thought about that. I did it for another one of my DVDs just to demo it to people. I guess I'm concerned about how easy it is to redistribute it..not saying that anyone would. But I'm always checking Youtube and other video sites for copyright violations.
