Heather's back... in time for spring!

For those "NAM old-timers" who know me and also for those looking for detailing help in general, I wanted to post to let you know that I plan to be available here in the Detailing 101 forum again more often to help you with your questions and concerns. Now that Miss Paia has turned 6 months, it's getting increasingly easier for me to organize my time working from home better; thus, allowing me some time to visit NAM more frequently. Just in time for Spring!

I know you'll ask, (or maybe I'm just a proud mom!) so here are some recent photos of the future OCD detailing kid:

...and helping me work!

I hope I can be of help... to both the newbies looking for startup advice to the advanced, as they explore new techniques and products.

Happy Detailing and Happy Spring! See ya out there.

-Heather

She's a cutie for sure. I need to stop by the store for some supplies, but I'll call first.

Hey, Heather.... Paia is soooooooooooooooooooo CUTE !! In fact, she's so cute, I have a strong suspicion she'll never detail a car. She'll have her royal subjects doing it for her.

Nice to see you hanging around the board again and your timing is great. It's THAT time of the year again.

I hope that's a microfiber bib.

As has been said - she's a CUTIE.

You sure Nick's the dad?

Glad your back! Just sent my order in 2 days ago. And finally jumped in big time by ordering a PC. Glad to know you will be available for questions because I know I'll have lots of them.

Your baby girl sure is a cutie!

Ask away!

You'll find that after you get started with the PC, it's very easy to use and you'll love what it can do. You're in for some fun!

Yes, she sure is, isn't she?? (hee-hee... proud mom!)

Hey Heather!

Paia is getting bigger! Good to see she is healthy and you are starting to get some "time off."

I was wondering what your thoughts on the Flex Random Orbital were, if you've used it yet. I'm thinking about moving from just a PC and need some guidance.

I'm not Heather, but I can tell you the Flex is more powerful than a PC, and it takes a lot of getting used to. Since I'm proficient with the rotary, the Flex isn't my first tool of choice.

I just restored a Maserati today using a Flex, and although the Flex did a better job at polishing than just the PC alone, the best combination for me was using the Flex first, followed by the PC...which I realize is kind of pointless. But here's the reasoning. The Flex has a much larger orbit than the PC. I prefer the tighter orbit for better polishing results. The larger orbit is great for cutting to remove scratches, but it's not so great when you demand the best results.

The other problem with the Flex is that it moves around a lot. I find myself more fatigued when using the Flex than my rotary or PC.

IMO, if you're looking for something better than a PC, you might look at a Cyclo instead if a rotary isn't your cup of tea!

Richard

Hey Richard!

Thanks for the reply. I was actually going to ask for your opinion as well, so this works out.

I've heard similar things as far as the difficulty of using the Flex when compared to the PC. I would really love to move up to a rotary, but haven't been trained in using it really and would rather be fully comfortable before stepping up to a more powerful machine. I definitely would love to come out and learn from you, but the expenses are just too high for my wee college budget

I will look into the Cyclo some more and do some more homework. If anyone has any other input, please post!
