when I detailed cars I would use either rubbing alcohol or goof off but was very careful. then would hit it up with some shine product lightly to get a nice look to the area.
I'd say no to Magic Erasers. They work by acting as an abrasive. They're good for getting out stuff on very hard surfaces but they also scratch. It's like very fine sandpaper.

No marks for now. I agree, it probably was an okay interim solution, but be careful when you wax!
I started detailing cars when I was 12. I'm not a pro, but I went to a lot of car shows with my dad when I was a kid, and detailed his car for him before the shows. We won a lot of trophies, so while I'm not an expert, I have some experience in this.
No matter what you do, this white stuff never comes off all the way. The magic eraser probably removed enough for you to be able to live with it, but in a few days, when it has had time to dry again, you will start noticing more white material. The only way I have found to efficiently make this stuff go away for a while is hot water and Dawn. No, no other dish soap will work. It must be Dawn. Spot treat the plastic ONLY!
For future reference, don't get the wax on your plastic when you're waxing. That's rule number one of applying paste wax to a car. Be meticulous and careful when waxing the car and you won't have a repeat of this problem.
