On one drip that is a nice single stripe, I did use a toothbrush and goo gone for a bit longer, now I have a lovely white haze around the goo. Sucks.
Have not yet tried hot water or steam, but open for suggestions. This stuff is really baked on hard.
I did use engine degreaser on a wet cloth and got most of the remnants off the underside of the bonnet though. Maybe I'll let it go a few more months, then replace the fender trim. Ouch.
Thanks.

Did you try asking the dealer if he had something. Back in the 80's VW's use to come shipped with a bottle of stuff that the dealers would use to remove cosmoline at that time it was done as part of the dealers prep. I think I used laquer thinner to remove a few spots where the dealer missed around the badges but use it on a damp rag and very lightly (too much will eat the clearcoat) wash and rewax area immidately. But I'd ask the guy in the dealer prep dept first I'm sure he has seen spots that were missed by VDC and had to clean them up before a car was delivered to the customer.
Not sure what you mean by "both points up front" but I had a lot of leftover cosmoline on the inside the bonnet. It cleaned it off pretty easily with WD-40. If yours is on the exterior I'm not sure I would recommend WD-40 but it seemed to work great and had no effect on the paint, at least where I used it.

Where the bonnet seams are - one high near the side fender/scuttles, one low beside/below headlamp. Just normal oozing from the cosmoline that got onto the black plastic fender trim, now it's baked on pretty hard.
Have not yet tried WD40 but will likely give it a go. This is unpainted black plastic.

3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover worked for me under the hood with no effect on paint. Give it a try but spot test on black plastic trim before going crazy.
I've used Simple Green under the hood. Just sprayed it on and closed the hood for 20-30 minutes. When I came back I used the hose to spray it off and it took most of it off the first time.

i opened the door where there is cosmoline for me to clean up ... but i discovered something else that is hard to remove.
i didn't do anything unwisely if it is hard for me to remove because i didn't want to void my warranty. i decided to bring it to the dealer for my sa to witness that it is not from me but from factory so they took the picture of defect on painting as evident where glue should not be on the painting and cause the damage on coat that can cause the rust easier in the future without protector. again, i discovered the two more drip paintings on same door on bottom of door's edge that become weak to cause chip easy. it is not from chip rock at all. my painting is metalic that require to refinishing/repainting whole door instead of touch up. lucky for both of me, dealer & mini because it is on the same door before they sent my car to the shop to do kill two birds with one stone to save mini's $. yeah, they also took another picture of two defect drip painting as evident again. they did honor the warranty to cover the defect.
just recommend you to inspect any glue or drip painting on any edge of door or bonnet. don't do anything dumb by yourself if it is hard to remove or to fix. it won't hurt to show them first if it rule out to honor under the warranty.
