A Testimony - Or how I beat WDOT
OK I spelled Testimony wrong, but deal with it.
I've spent the last couple of weeks driving between Denver and Gillette, Wyoming. This being summer WDOT is in full force chip-sealing the roads. For those that don't know what chip-sealing means; in Wyoming it means finding the freshest, stickiest oil and spraying it on the road, then using about 2 inches of the sharpest, dustiest gravel, cover the oil and let the travelers work it in real good. They do this in about 8 mile stretches and usually on one lane at a time (increases the windshield breakage potential).
Usually after a stint on a freshly chip-sealed road you can count on two or three things:
1. Cracked windshield
2. Chipped paint
3. Oil all over your wheels
This year I foiled WDOT's attempts at oiling my wheels by using Wheel Armour (formally Wheel Shield) from http://www.detailersparadise.com/Vie...20061202164230. While I still got oil on my wheels, I was simply able to remove the splatters by just rubbing with a microfiber & water. All of it came right off! A great product IMHO.
BTW - I did get chips in my paint, but no windshield cracks this time.

Congratulations on your "win" !
I haven't tried Wheel Shield yet but certainly will soon.

Good tip with the Wheel Shield.
Regarding the paint; since you know the gravel is coming, why not a bra? I know it has its drawbacks, but if you only put it on for WY roads...just a thought.

This is an excellent point and illustrates the futility of a bra. I use a Colgan bra for the bonnet and front bumper. Thicker by far than any clearshield. However, I still get chips, not under the bra but above. I get them up by the wiper jets, above the windshield, A pillars and on the sides above the trim on the doors. So unless they come up with a MINI condom, you're gonna get chips if you drive your MINI. Given that fact, I prefer the temporary bra since I don't have to have it on when I don't need it.

Wow. That bites. I have read of some folks on NAM doing a full bonnet clear bra, but a full MINI condom is a new one on me.
Best of luck with the WY roads. May your future travels be gravel-free.

At first I thought the option was to drive something other than a MINI

How many rolls would a job like that take?
