Pollen!!!

Frustrating to spend a couple hours on a thorough wash, only to have the car covered in green dust when you're done!

Thank goodness for the California duster.

Yeah that sucks. Was washing the Wife's car today so I put my car out on the street and by the time I moved it you could barely see ouy of the windshield.

I did a nice job on both cars yesterday ('05 MCS and an '02 Mercedes C320 Wagon) - Ice wash, spot claying, Hydro finish. Walked out this morning and they were both covered.

Can't wait for summer.

BTW, this was my first time using Hydro, and I'm sold. Looks like I need a few gallons now.

Yeah, the pollen is NUTS. I washed and Hydro'd the car Sat morning. Half hour later, I went to pick up my son and already the car was coverd in a yellow dust. I Slicked it this morning before my 5 mile drive to the Metro and when I got there, pollen was already reappearing. Someone --- are you listening DP ---- needs to develope a pollen repellant!!!

So being in SoCal, I never knew what the big deal was with pollen. At MOTD this past week, I got first hand exposure to it, and well to be quite honest, the pollen issue seemed to be no different from the dust issue I have to deal with on a daily basis here in Southern California. I mean, yeah I understand that it changes the color of your car to yellow or whatever color the pollen is-- but if anyone can create a product that would prevent pollen from sticking to the car, then it would have to be applied to the plastic, the glass, the chrome as well, and if it prevented pollen from sticking, it would also prevent dust and anything else from adhering to it. I just don't think that's going to happen.

Yeah, yeah. That's what they said about the Stones lasting more than 2 years. And it was the Stones who said that.

Pollen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about you guys, but the cars in central NJ have been caked in pollen for 2+ weeks. I just got my MINI and I want to wash it because it looks disgusting, but I feel like it will just be covered again in the next day. How do other people deal with this??

I have no suggestions....but if someone has one, I'm also interested! My poor Mini was rained on one morning, and then the pollen hit in the afternoon, so she now has little yellow dots all over her from where the pollen gathered in the pooling rain drops.

We get a lot of pine pollen in my area. My car's color choice was partially due to that. There is not much you can do but park it inside and try to wash at least once a week.

A car cover might help but will need cleaning regularly.

California duster?

Anyone tried a California Duster?

As long as the pollen stays dry I'd believe this would work. If it gets rained on and sets...probably not

California Dusters are very safe - the hard core collector car crowd uses them a lot. I have one in my 79 and it is the tool of choice for a quick dusting b4 leaving the garage and once I arrive at a show. I got it at a British Car Show as a door prize.

Available from many many sources.

Pollen is better than all the pollen filled bugs splattered all over mine. Looks like it did battle with thousands of tiny mustard filled water balloons.

As long as your MINI doesn't start budding, I wouldn't worry about it.

I washed my AB/AB this morning and by lunch it had a noticable coat of pollen/dust. I went to Auto Zone and got a California Duster for $10 and it worked brilliantly on removing the coat of dust. Could be the best $10 I've spent in a while.

Yea, I'm with you on that. I wash mine outside then take into the garage to detail it. Last step is a light CA duster sweep. It stays nice and shinny until I take it out the next time.

It sure is a pain in the neck...I cant even leave the car outside at all once I wash it because it will get pollenized.

Pine pollen is a big issue out here in Washington, particularly in my neighborhood, which was planned and constructed AROUND the hundred year old pine trees that were on the hill when the developer bought it in the 70's. Every year, our concrete driveway turns yellow from all the pine pollen. My corolla, now parked on the street due to the arrival of my MINI, was so coated in yellow that I could see the layer of pollen on it, even though the car is silver and rarely shows dirt! I pulled it into the driveway (Man was that STRANGE after driving a MINI, but that's a completely different thread) and washed it yesterday, even though it was due to rain, because rain would have just left big yellow streaks all over it.

This has been annoying the crap out of me with the MINI because she's new and has a black roof. If she leaves the garage, or the garage door opens right now... there's a fine coating of yellow dust all over the roof. *cringe* Can't stand it!

California duster, you say? *Gets in her MINI and motors down to Shuck's to buy three of them, one for each vehicle*

Attack of the Trees! And what you do about it....

I live in the mtns of western NC. Pollen here has always driven me crazy and when I get my new Clubman I might end up insane!

My driveway is directly under a big white pine and it drops pounds pounds of sticky, gooey yellow pollen dust everyday. Reading this thread from last year I realize this is really just a bunch o people like me who are complaining about it.

But what do we do about it? Like many of you I wish I had a garage to park in but I dont. I guess one idea is to rinse it daily?....but of course every morning it'll be covered again. I guess I could buy one of those cheezy aluminum car covers but it doesnt offer side protection. Or I get a car covers and wrap it over each night when I get home.....ughh.

Well maybe theres no good answer but it would be real intrestin to hear what y'all are all doin to fight the good fight....or are you?

if it's your house, cut it down and plant another tree.

Wow I wish it was that easy. I live in a very very green area...in fact we're a "Tree City, USA" city. Unless you live DOWNtown, in the most center area of town you are going to get sticky gooeyasz pollen on your car.
Sure. I have some of the most excellent highways to drive but for many months of the year we have tree spewcum everywhere.

I guess unless I build a garage of some sort it will be a problem with my new baby?

How about a fashionable temporary Gar-tent-rage setup at the foot of my driveway. Maybe thats an idea?
