Ideas for keeping wheels clean?
Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any ideas/products that help to reduce brake dust on wheels? Is there a cleaner that anyone uses that also tries to "repel" brake dust? Sounds odd, I know.
General cleaning is not a problem, but I always find I need to pay extra attention to the wheels because of brake dust, effective a second more detailed cleaning process after the normal full-car clean. (I have tried pre-cleaning, but water run-off from the full-car clean creates little break-dust streaks).
For the second clean, I am currently using water-less spray clean and a cloth.
Any thoughts....I am suspecting the extra clean is the only way (that's what happens when you choose white wheels?!?!)

I haven't put my white wheels on yet, but I just ordered some Wheel Armor from DP. I've been told it works well to repel brake dust or at least make them easier to clean. In the past my only defense is lots of wax/polish before I put the wheels on the car.

i just use Hydro after the wash. it helps dust/tar from sticking to the
wheel for next time's wash. plus it makes the wheels look nice.

I used the Wheel Amour before I put the wheels on. I now use Hydro when I wash them. Much easier to clean now.

They may look clean, but brake dust does nasty stuff, like etch into the finish on the wheel. Much cheaper to protect them and keep them clean then to have to have them refinished, or replaced.
My white wheels with 95k miles on them, that are waxed twice a year, washed, then Hydro when needed.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for coming back to me so quickly with responses....
Waxing and Hydro seems to be the consensus. I will add this into my detailing routine.
Thanks again everyone.

I second this. Even with all the waxes or protectants there is still always some break dust that will be visible on your white wheels after a drive.
I have dozens of microfiber towels just dedicated to the wheels. I try to wipe the wheels down with a quick detailer spray and towel once a day (that's 'try' --- sometimes they do get pretty dirty ).

I've had pretty good luck with Michelin Brake Dust repellant. Seems to lessen the amount of dust that sticks to the wheels and the majority of the dust that does stick hoses off with a strong jet of water. Still have to get down and scrub by hand for a complete clean but they clean up a lot easier.
