Exhaust tip cleaning.

What does everyone in here use to clean the excess carbon off of the exhaust tips. and is there a recommended metal polish? I cleaned mine with a rag and soapy water and seems to have put small scratches in them.

whats the best cleaning method?

TIA

I've had very good results with Eagle One Never-Dull. Comes as a wading that you pull off pieces that are saturated with cleaner/polish.

I have used blue-away for polishing metals, it takes the heat marks away too. I don't know if you can buy it anymore though because my can has been sitting here for years

Barkeepers Friend...

is an inexpensive mild abrasive that works great for cleaning and polishing stubborn marks from stainless steel. Works well on glass, too. For myself, I usually approach abrasive cleansers in stages. I start with the really mild stuff and get scratchier and scratchier, depending on how the material responds. Brasso can be very effective and I really like Flitz for a variety of uses. These last two are very commonly available.

Honda Polish from my local Honda motorcycle dealer. Safe for plastic, glass, metal, chrome; everything. Takes chain lube off motorcycles and wipes that nasty black mess right off the Mini's pipes with no effort. It's non abrasive. I use it on my helmet face shield as well.

Ken's tip re WENOL is right on target. I tried it ($10 a tube at Williams Sonoma). The soft paste shines up the tips and removes carbon with very little effort. A week after cleaning my MCS' tips still gleam. Very good stuff. Thanks for the tip, Ken.

That store is dangerous enough without it being a detailing supply destination. The last time I was there 'just browsing' I walked out with an ice cream maker.

Yum!

Word has it that the Mother's powerball on a drill works well for polishing tips (with the right polish, of course, not dry).
