noob's praise for OneGrip

Hi All,
I just wanted to share my impressions of OctaneGuy's new product, OneGrip, for the PC. I had bought a bunch of stuff from OctaneGuy, including a PC, and he graciously offered to let me do my first PC polish & wax job at his shop, and help get me started. Note that I did the work - OG was on hand to demonstrate PC technique and use of the various products.

For those who don't know, the OneGrip is a neoprene & velcro strap that binds the PC to your hand. It allows you to use the PC one-handed, perhaps with a light touch of your free hand for fine maneuvers & adjusting down force.

Cut to the chase - after a very long day with the PC, I am completely sold on the OneGrip. This really struck me near the end my polishing session (quite exhausted at that point - I'm a desk-jockey most days). I was polishing my roof, and was able to reach to the middle of it confidently with the PC in one hand, without leaning on the car. Shortly there after, I had some masking tape fly loose while I had the PC going with a full head of polish. Instead of first shutting down the PC & putting it down, I was able to fix the tape with my free hand, leaving the PC running. That may not sound like a big deal, but believe me, I sure appreciated it at that point in the day. Maybe you could do that without OneGrip, but I would be nervous about the PC wandering, accidentally lifting, or even (gasp) falling out of my hand. With the OneGrip I didn't give it a second thought.

(oh god, i'm starting to sound like an infomercial - please note that OG did not solicit or compensate me in any way for my comments here).

Some other impressions ... Initially I wasn't too confident with the PC, and having to deal the OneGrip was one additional factor to deal with. Getting used to the pattern of PC usage (mainly turning on/off while in contact with paint) took me a bit to get the hang of, and the OneGrip added another learning factor on top of that. It's not hard to use, but it was initially kind of fidgety getting on & off my hand, and getting to the power switch was a little awkward, since it is under your strapped hand. After polishing a couple of panels, these issues disappeared for me.

I tried using the PC with & without the OneGrip, and it seemed that it gave me a lot better 'feel'. By 'feel', I mean the amount of pressure I was applying, and the angle of the pad to the panel. It seems to make the PC more of an extension of my arm.

The OneGrip reminded me of a special hand strap I use on my digital SLR, instead of a neck strap ( http://www.amazon.com/Hakuba-KGP-02-...6121776&sr=8-2 ), which I also highly recommend. Both products give me much more confidence that I won't lose grip, and let me focus more effectively on the task at hand.

I hope this helps someone thinking of getting the OneGrip. I'm curious to hear reviews from the experienced PC pros here.

Great review! It's nice to hear how helpful it is for a noob.

Nice work on the great invention, Richard!

Thanks Heather!! What I would like to point out in that picture is there are actually 3 parts to the PC--these can be purchased with a PC or as a separate kit. The PC Guard offers protection for your paint when you're trying to reach that last little bit under the spoiler, scoop, door handles, etc..., the Housing Bolts secure the plastic housing when you don't use the handle--otherwise this rattles and will eventually lead to you losing the polisher as you work! Finally the adjustable OneGrip is what I've been working on for the past year and a half and as Pastabatman so kindly reviewed.

Richard
