Removing strong adhesive...

It's a long story that I'd rather not get in to, but I wound up with some strong adhesive (glue type adhesive) on my bumper.

I tried goo gone and some other less harsh adhesive removers, but it's not nearly doing what I need it to. I obviously want to make sure not to take off paint if possible, but really need to clear this up. It's annoying me night and day.

I know this post makes me sound oblivious This is why I get all of my mods done professionally...I suck at anything automotive for some reason (wasn't born with the gene?)

My friend owns a detailing company and said that they could probably get it off, but I'd rather do it myself if possible.

Any suggestions?

How strong? Are we talking about CyA or Epoxy level or Elmers level?

You could try some low levels of heat, but not long enough that would deform the bumper or the paint--a heat gun used very carefully might help. I think you're best off letting your detailing friend deal with it--if he messes it up, it's his dime unless you sign a release.

You could try W-D40, it takes off lots of sticky gunk.

when working on adhesives on paint, i use WD40, a plastic blade (hard squeege works too), paper towels to wipe the blade (not the paint!),
alcohol to clean the mess afterwards, and some scratchx with foam
pad... and some wax at the very end.

ofcourse the goal would be to try to remove the adhesive in one piece
without using any chemicals... but not always possible.

A dealer got some (ok a lot) of that heavy duty adhesive used to hold on all the emblems among other things onmy right rear quarter panel. I washed, scrubbed with hot water, clayed, soaked in hot water and scrubbed again and that got 90% or so then weekly washing for a year got the rest.

Soak the WD40 on the area with a cloth for a few minutes, to help it soften the gunk.

I used WD40 and a squeegee to soften the double sided adhesive holding on the Cooper factory spoiler and for the emblems. Good stuff, but we still don't know how hard this glue is. I don't think WD40 would do any good for an epoxy....

I agree, once epoxy sets up and sticks to something, well you pretty much need heat, or a hammer and chisel

I have used goof off with much success for the toughest adhesive removal with no ill effects. It is extremely powerful stuff. After I used it I washed the area right away and waxed it.

WD-40 works wonders with adhesive gunk. Spray it on. let it soak, and peel. Repeat as necessary.
