Gold Class vs. Mystique

I noticed that my Griot's gallon of car wash has about 5 washes left or maybe 7 in the tank. That means I should get a refill.

Now, I did the math and noticed that it takes like just about the same per dollar amount to use Mystique vs. Griot's.

That made it a "no brainer" as I am switching to DP's line and Mystique has more lubricants and actually has some polymer in it for shine.

Then I was like.. I remember the Richard famous video of him doing up his mini's with Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo and conditioner. Hm.

I went on Meg's site and Lo and behold! it is 11.90 for 1 gallon jug. Jeez. that is 1/4th just about DP's mystique. Now I know that if you want a lil more slip, you normally just add a bit more solution. Even if I added like 30% more soap, it still would be less than half the cost in the long run.

I dont want to trash DP's line. I am sure that it is better soap. I have some questions though for people who are running out of money and need to look at the bigger picture for this hobby.

1. Are the conditioners in Meguiar's gold class polymers?
2. If they are polymers, would that interfere with Epic and Hydro?
3. Is meguiar's gold class not enough slip compared to Mystique even if I put more in per wash?
4. there also is: Meguiars Hyper Wash. this is more concentrated and even LESS per wash price. anyone know of it?

For Gold Class, 11.90 is really cheap and would take me a year it seems to go through it. ???

I've been using Meg's Gold to wash my Epic'd (since February) & Hydro'd (since MOTD5) car for long enough to empty a 2qt bottle, and I LOVE the results. Any shinier would hurt my eyes .

Megs Goldclass car wash is excellent. If you want those "polymers" you can use the NXT car wash from megs as well. It is also great. Also order the Black plastic grit gaurd. It goes on the bottom of your bucket and when you throw your towel/sponge into the bucket, the grit/dirt stays on the bottom so you dont pick it back up and re-apply it to your car. You can use this with any car wash.

For what it is worth(and I know there are alot of opinions out there) but from someone who use to do a lot of car detailing, I use the NXT line. The car wash, and liguid wax. Then I use the NXT Speed Detailer or Ultimate Quick Detailer in between waxes. In fact I dont wash my car very often so as to keep the wax on. I use the quick detailer almost every time I am done driving my car or my Wifes Porsche. It takes 3 minutes to wipe down the car. Looks great too. Just watch out for Black cars and the heat.

I do not want polymers if that is what the "Conditioner" part is. It would only stop the bonding of other polymers after the wash. Mystique would have the same polymers and therefore be the best to use if it wasnt 50 dollars plus shipping for a gallon of it.

they make a "pro" line in meguiars, the one I mentioned at the bottom of my post, that doesnt mention anything about conditioners. It could be the same stuff just concentrated or completely different.

I think only OctaneGuy would know the answer to this as he was a Meguiar's promoter for a while.

Used both and here are my rather unscientific and non-pro-perspective thoughts:

The mystique requires maybe 1/2 to 1/4 the amount to use so take that into consideration comparing price (I use one ounce for abut 3 gallons for the mini). It takes a while to get used to not having so many suds but I've read on here over and over that suds aren't necessary. Both do a good job though the mystique may leave a little more shine (polymers).

Bottom line for me: mystique gives a 'glide' factor of floating over the paint that the gold class never has for me which I take as superiour lubricity - which is a very good thing!

im considering to try Mystique when my gallon of CarWash is used up.
The main reason is i wash my cars that use Hydro the most...which means,
why not keep it in the same "system."

CarWash vs GoldClass was night and day. GoldClass does not have nearly
the lubricity of Griot's shampoo.

darn. that leaves me with needing to get Mystique. Don't want to induce swirls with using improper slip in the soap.

sux.

Buy a small bottle of Mystique to see if you like it. Perhaps by the time you have drained the small bottle DP will have a sale like their 20% off kind.
I use Gold Class for other people's cars and save the good stuff for mine. There is a huge difference is the lub between the two.

I don't know about being a "Meguiar's Promoter"--but yes I use Meguiar's products cause I liked them. I also like Prima so I use them as well. Which wash soap you use really depends on what you're trying to do.

If you're washing your car to prep for polishing, then any old car wash soap will do fine. IMO, any polymers will be wasted during the polishing.

If you're washing for maintenance---to just wash after your last wax job weeks ago, then using a wash with polymers will keep the paint looking it's best with minimal work.

Don't get fooled by the size. You need more than twice as much soap per 5 gallon bucket with Gold Class than with Mystique--so a larger bottle is necessary. If you've tried any of the really cheap Meguiar's car wash soap--in the pink bottles-- that stuff is basically water. You use a lot of it to get decent lubrication.

Gold Class is 1 oz of soap per gallon.

Mystique is 1 to 2 oz of soap per 5 gallons

Richard

ah Rich

Your famous video used Gold Class meguiar's stuff.

One would assume it is decent.

How about other polymers messing with a wax job? Like, I wash the car, use Meguiars Gold for the shampoo, and then want to do another layer of Epic or throw some Hydro on it. Will it hurt the durability/stick of the new application? I know the polymer level is low, but it is there.

Yep, it's decent stuff. To the best of my knowledge Gold Class Car Wash Soap doesn't contain polymers in it.

From the Meguiar's website.
"Meguiar's® Gold Class™ Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner is a rich and luxurious product designed to both wash and condition paint in one easy step. The premium formula gently foams away tough dirt, road grime and contaminants without compromising wax protection. Ultra rich paint conditioners clear away debris to reveal color and clarity, leaving paint looking radiant."

Mystique is 1-2 ounces per 5 gallons.

Now, 2 is 2x the ounces of 1.

So is it 2 or 1. Can't be either or.

1 ounce per 5 gallon makes it 128 washes for 50 dollars plus shipping
2.... 64 washes... that's a big old price difference. What would you use Rich?

Sure it can. Read the label. I prefer 2.5 ounces.
Prima's suggested dispensing method is two good squeezes per bottle. To me that's too random.

Uhm, 128 washes? Are you looking at gallon sizes of Mystique?

Like anything, try a small bottle. Decide for yourself if you like it before buying it in quantity. Gold Class and Mystique are very different products. NXT Car Wash soap is a closer match--it costs more and comes in smaller containers than Gold Class for a reason.

Yeah, I buy only gallon sizes of things. Half gallons are fine as well if they are cheap.

I am griot's guy normally. Everything they have is in gallons. Smallest bottles are 32 ounces about

NXT wash eh? hm
