No- leather products should not be used on leatherette, simply because leatherette is really just a fancy word for vinyl that looks alot like leather. So, you need to treat this as you woud vinyl. Kenchan explains...

leatherette is best treated with Nero, imho. lately ive been
doing 3 sprays into my MF app towel followed by 3 sprays of distilled
water into my MF to do the seats. this way the concentration is
much less and less prone to getting a slippery seat. after the
app towel begins to dry, instead of adding more Nero, i add more
distilled water and wipe.
then i move onto the next seat, spray Nero once into the towel
and do 1-2 sprays of distilled water and wipe.
the seats turn out a nice matte finish and no slippery and barely
squeaking seat. the squeaking stops almost within 5-10min.
Does it make the leather slippery? I hate having to unfurl myself from under the dash whenever I stop.
That is a funny visual!
Nope! It does not contain any silicones or waxes, both of which are not good for leather and can cause this slipperiness of which you speak. Silicones and waxes are also usually the culprits when a leather product causes the leather to look really shiney or greasey.
The new Prima leather conditioner is free of both!
hummm.. i wonder if there's going to be a spray version available too.
cremes are good, but some seats have perforations that make them a
pita to condition as the creme gets caught up in the little holes... so
2-3 months creme, then every other week, spray. that's how im doing
mine right now and that's been easy to keep up..
There won't be a spray version of this simply because it is too thick and creamy.
I do hear your concern though... for that I would recommend Leatherique Prestine Clean. Although primarily a cleaner, it has just a tiny touch of conditioning oils in it too. We often use it in one of our little 2 oz spritzer bottles. It's quite handy and effective... and no issues in the perfs.
And I almost ordered some Leatherique. Now I think I will hold off. Is the new product a two stage system similar to Leatherique?
Although this Prima product is a very effective and rich conditioner, nothing is really like the whole Leatherique process (Rejuvenator + Prestine).
Think of Leatherique of deep-pore cleansing and conditioning treatment, as opposed to a stand-alone conditioner. It pushes out all the gunk which is clogged in the pores of the leather while depositing oils at the base of the pores. Although Leatherique's big thing is deep cleansing- it is this deep cleansing that allows both its own conditioners (Rejuvenator) and any other conditioners (ie, Prima) to actually get into the pores where it is most needed.
**My recommended process would be to use the full Leatherique process once a year (or every other year if it's a "garage queen" or still very new leather) and then use the Prima conditioner as the routine maintainance conditioner every month or so (depending on your climate).
So I applied some of the yet to be named DP leather care lotion on the Expedition seats this past weekend and these are my observations:
I really like the consistency. The cream is very easy to get out of the bottle, yet it is thick enough to cling to vertical surfaces. The smell is very pleasant and is almost identical to the Zaino Z-10 Leather in a Bottle. It is not quite as strong as the Zaino and after applied does diminish in a good way. The Zaino smell is almost too strong and it remains for weeks. I can still smell the DP Leather Luv, but in a subtle, non-obtrusive way. The product worked very at removing some surface gunk (don't know what it was) so even though it is not advertised as a cleaner, it did so. It did not stain or darked the stitching threads in the seat or the embroidery on the headrests. Finally, the seats were well treated. The product absorbed rapidly and the leather was softened afterwords. It did leave a slight sheen to the leather which I later removed with a cloth. It did not however leave the surface sticky or slick in anyway.
So I rate this future DP product pretty effective and well worth the $400/bottle I'm sure DP will charge. JK, I'm sure it will be reasonably priced (but just add it to the ever growing list of things I buy from DP).
If it was $400/bottle I would just get new seats or have the current ones reupholstered.
How did you get a test sample? Did you get a free T-shirt too?
Here's how you get a test sample; first move to Colorado (Denver specifically). Then buy like a gazillion dollars of stuff from them. Next stop by their store almost every Friday (that reminds me ...) and finally just happen to walk in when they are looking for a test subject.
