Removing bonnet stripes

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but did'nt see it in the first 2 pages. Anyway has anyone removed their bonnet stripes? I would like to remove mine, as they are all scratched and marked up. My car has 42k on it, do you think the paint is going to be different under there? I belive there are some pic's in my gallery that will show up. How tough is it to get the stipes off? Any help is appreciated . Or a link to another thread. Thanks.

I've been told, but haven't tried it, that you carefully use a heat gun or hair dryer to remove stripes. Then a wax stripper to get the remaining glue off.

my factory one just pulled off cleanly with only wax residue build up along
the sides of the stripes. i had it on there for about a year. i just
used my nail to pry up the corner and then pulled it.

i read octaneguy had a hell of a time removing AC's chrome stripe off of
MiniClo's MCS....

To answer your questions.

1.) Yes it will look different underneath the stripe (more so on certain colors--Solar Red for instance will show more difference than say Chili Red)
2.) Can if be made to look more even? Sure. There are several reasons why it will look different. One is that you may have swirls all over your paint, except for the area under the stripes--so use some polish to remove the swirls and it will look more even. Another is that you need to use clay bar to remove any bonded contaminants from the surrounding paint. Finally, paint does fade and nothing can be done about this except to polish and clean the paint as above, then put on a good wax over the whole bonnet.
