Resurrected discussion on window tint

Greetings all,

I am expecting delivery of my new Clubbie in the next couple weeks and want to be prepared to get the sunroof tinted shortly thereafter. I may also get side windows tinted, but nothing too dark - and want to keep within VA guidelines.

I saw a number of posts on Solar Solutions in Laurel MD but wondered if anyone in the DC Metro area has experience with LA Tints? It looks like they have few locations and a good variety of tinting to choose from.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

thx,

Bonita

Sorry, don't know anything about LA Tints, but I can give a thumbs up for Solar Solutions.

Not sure how far you're willing to drive, but there's a shop near the White Marsh area (not far from Baltimore), DNL window tinting. They're heavily advertised and have a very good reputation.

I've used LA tints when I had my Honda Accord. But for my Cooper I used Solar Solutions. I recommend Solar because it's cheaper (ask for a NAM discount) and the tints been on my car for about 2 years now with no problem.

I initially used another tint vendor (not one that has been mentioned here, but this was prior to my awareness of the forums) for my MCS, who was highly recommended, but fell pretty short of my expectations.

It seems there are enough unique traits to the MINI's that "average" shops can end up doing somewhat less-than-average jobs of applying your tint.

Carlos at Solar Solutions does do a phenomenal job, and he stands behind his work. I got to see him in action during an install day, and after being fed up with repeatedly going back to my original tinter, I booked time with Carlos to remove my existing tint, and do a new (and ok, darker) install.

His location might be a bit of a drive, but the quality is worth the investment of your time.

Those are my two cents! Let us know which route you go!

It's good to hear the reviews of Carlos' work! My Clubman S arrives this month and I plan on giving him a call. I wonder what the Clubman would look like with the front side drivers/passenger window a lighter tint then the rear side...hmmm

Congrats Sidswiftsteel,
who was your MA in Annapolis? Let me know what you decide on the tint. I find that even with the side visor, the front sun visor is lacking in size and still get blinded by the light (ELO). Maybe I sit lower. So I want tint on driver / passenger side, rear and rear clubbie doors. Oh and also, a little accross the top front windshield since the front visor is lacking in coverage. Where is Solar Solutions?

*MA is Mark Mickley - very nice and helpful
*tinting is going to be done at Solar Solutions when I get some free time. I'm going with an even shade across all windows probably 20-30% and leaving the front windshield alone (sunglasses help)
*Solar Solutions is in Laurel, MD off of Rt. 1. I don't know for sure but I believe it is across from Laurel Mall

Good luck!

I am not sure, but you should call him. I know he does metallic, non metallic, and carbon. Not sure of the brands.
