Harshing My Buzz

Is it me, or are there too many Minis on the road these days? Part of the allure was the relative rarity of these cars, but now it seems every idiot with an SUV is trading it in for one of ours.

Tongue firmly in cheek.

they've been ubiquitous around these parts for years..I see 4-5 a day when I go out to do errands. Most don't wave, either.

I see lots of MINIs, but I still see TONS of SUVs. The SUVs usually insist on parking on top of me, too (no matter where I park!!) Escalades in particular seem to have it out for Cricket.

I haven't gotten a lot of waves lately, but I've noticed most drivers aren't paying attention.

Move away from an area near a dealership. The closest dealership is over an hour away and I'll go several days at a time without seeing one.

I agree on the waving; people around here never seem to wave back.

Yup, when I visit family in Mechanicsburg PA kids actually holler out loud to me as I drive by still.

I like it to be a bit different too which is part of the reason I did the convert and aero kit.

+1 on the "they don't wave"... you get a strong idea that they are not MINIacs when there are no stripes on the bonnet or no mods..... definitely not "with the program". That being said, more often that not, I am lucky enough to get a wave in my neck of the woods.

Whoa!! Let's not cast dispersions at the unmoded or those that appear unmoded. Looks can be deceiving. Carol's MCSa appears completely stock, no stripes. (I did sneak a pulley in it) I think we would still be considered MINIacs, even before we got the Clubman.

I think MINIs should take over the world. I don't mind when I see a lot. And I probably see 5-10 per day now in and around Arlington and Georgetown. Most do not wave, but that makes it all the more special when someone does.

I have been a MINIac since May 2003 but never moded any of the 6 MINIs we purchased....
Washington DC and Annapolis (where I motor more often) has I lot of MINIs and I rarely initiate a wave but I do wave back..

Relax....within 10 years all the fad types will be gone ! (especially when they figure out that this ain't no Honda)

Then, it will be us true MINI lovers that continue to beat the drum albeit at $10 a gallon

Not a rule ... but based on past experience... I get waves more often from Minis with stripes on the bonnet than from ones that don't.

I hope everyone realizes that I was (half) joking.

Does seem to have touched a nerve, though.

No nerves touched here, tell you what, in an effort to improve "yer" outlook.......go out in yer MINI and count how many Honda Civics you see, then you will see that we are still "Rare" birds

As for waves, I just wave to any of them, if they wave back, hey great ! but if they don't, just repeat this "wav" http://sounds.wavcentral.com/movies/monty/bastards.mp3

i think we are definately rare howeverrrrrrrr i does seem that more and more people on the roads are driving minis as a mode of cheaper transportation compared to suv's and gas guzzlers unfortuneatley i think these buyers are stealing our thunder and allure by making the mini just another small car and mannn ive given up on waving . not onlydo friends and family make fun of it but when i do wave i dont waves back anyways so its wasted effort unless youre being waved at

Just because I prefer to "appear" to be a plain space blue MINI doesn't mean Buddha is anything but plain. Call it my version of a diversion for Officer Friendly.

Ahhhhhhh, Don't let Minipol get under your skin, he's just pointing out that he himself seems to notice the "more descreet" MINIs he encounters don't wave. I got flamed once for pointing out that I only seem to get waves from "S" models but its just that I happen to pass more "S" models. Since that post, I actually get plenty of waves from all MINIs, its always nice when they're piloted by cute young ladies (sshhh, don't tell Leona !)

As for 'Pol and his "glitz" theory, I pass two MINIs to and from work that have bonnies and checkered tops but after passing at least a dozen times, no waves, so I just don't wave anymore and have thrown them on the heap of "Common drivers" in not so common wrappers

Isn't the true British philosiphy to be more "toned down" anyway ? One might think MINIs with all the "Glitz" are quite "gaudy" Back during WWII the RAF Aircraft were always toned down while the Yanks were Gaudy glam machines.

... not making generalities... just observations.... have gotten a a couple of waves from "non-glitz" Minis as well..... And I'm sure that Buddha is as special as Wensleydale, Otto, Crickett, and the rest of ours .... stripes or no stripes.

I don't seem to get many waves from any of them. Of course, they must think I'm even weirder when I forget what car I'm driving and wave at them at the wheel of my Cherokee!

I think that us "TRUE" MINIacs need to come up with a secret wave that way we can weed out the non-MINIac owners.
