Driving to Cleveland for Turkey

I'm leaving this Friday, time not yet certain, to drive into Cleveland for Thanksgiving. Anyone else going that way that wants to caravan? Or a ride?

Best of luck & be prepared to be stuck in case of any incidents.

Total time to Chicago on Thanksgiving 2004: 18 hrs (normally 12!)

Thanks, but I need to pass having spent my 4 years in Cleveland...

I did venture to Columbus (a month ago), but that was before the clouds set in around Halloween -> Easter.

Safe ride, & watch out for contruction &/or the local fuzz.
(do a web search on sites like traffic.com for long-term construction projects in PA... I got stuck for 2 hrs in one).

Well, by leaving Friday, I'm ***hoping*** to get out of the area by around 2 ish. Barring someone to caravan with or who wants/needs a ride, of course Then I have all of next week off, plus the following Monday. I'll drive back the Monday AFTER all the craziness, and hold onto what sanity I have left!

Stop on by! My folks aren't but 4 minutes off 90, and we'll have a full house anyway, so an extra guest or two won't hurt = ) I used to live in Batavia, about a half hour west of Chicago. What part are you headed towards?

We're actually not going all the way to Chicago, my parents live in Ogden Dunes, IN. It's about an hour outside of Chicago, just off I-90.

Thanks for the invite!

Why not stop in Columbus? Have coffee with us, visit Outmotoring & then head north.

Sanity? Have you figured out the closely guarded secret of how to maintain sanity during holiday gatherings?

Please share the secret, Master. We will be forever in your debt

Enjoy your holiday!

I think your plans are about right to avoid the major traffic jams.

My parents are in the Cleveland area too. The last time I drove home for Thanksgiving it took me 12 hours (5-1/2 normally) due to a blizzard in OH & PA and I sat (parked) on the PA turnpike for over an hour not moving! That was about 7 or so years ago and I refuse to do it again. Now my parents drive to my house ... traffic is much better coming into DC than going out.

Now if my new Mini had arrived in time for Thanksgiving, I would have driven home just to show her off!

Thanks for the invite!

I hope my drive won't be so long that it takes me 'til Sat morning to breach Ohio though

I may be down C'bus way NEXT Friday though, I'm not sure. If any of y'all come up to Cleveland, I'd be happy to meet up!

I find the greatest amount of sanity by living in a different state than the rest of them!!!!!

Beyond that, doing what isn't always an option, and traveling on an off day. It is worth the day of lost pay to not have to deal with all the craziness, and to have (relatively) calm roads to traverse.

Plus, if you're going to be known as the "uppity one" who moved away and is "too good" for the family (it's true, I did and I {mostly} am) then I figure why not be known as the drunk uppity one at family events

were heading back to cleveland too (mentor) but will be taking the jetta. i grew up in the snow belt there, and would rather not have the mini sideways into a wall.
