My daughter brought this to me attention and I didn't think much of it at the time but now I understand what she was talking about. Quote: "Daddy, did you know that the silver round trim thingee around the key is on your other key that Aaron uses (my son) and not on your key". Sure enough, the silver trim is gone around the key I use but on the other spare key. Did one key come with trim and the second didn't? Could someone look at both keys and see if their the same. It works fine. Seems weird. Thanks
They both came with the ring. I think some one posted in a de-chroming thread about de-chroming their keyfob. It guess they just pop off. Maybe it's in your pocket or dryer some where.
What I find interesting is that they are able to distinguish favorite settings for each owner. For example, mine "knows" that I like to listen to books on CDs, and will start with them on. My husband doesn't, and the car starts with his favorite radio station.
Love them computer chips!

The silver on my key cracked and started to fall off luckily I noticed and was able to superglue it back on It sucks that they don't stay on better. Also my mini keychain broke within a week! (Maybe I'm too rough on my keys!)

I bought my mini used and only have one key, years ago I would just change out the cylenders on the doors and ignition, but nowadays with the keys costing $100. I just hope I mod the car enough that the original owner dosent recognize it.
then again, the new keys are so big, people dont carry them around if they dont own the car anymore.
but I do have a little chrome thingy around my key whatcacallit

Given this feature, it's probably a good idea to keep the ring off one, so they don't get mixed up. In my case, my car does whatever it wants, so it doesn't matter what I've programmed in the key.

Yep, it's included in the warranty. Mine broke off and the dealer gave me a new chrome ring.

That's the reason a lot of new owners are unhappy with self-programming. They do the work, but the features seem to only intermittently work as programmed. They don't know that EACH key has to be programmed with the feature (turn signal flashes, lights, locking, etc.) for it to work all the time.
