Help me re: brakes

We have a 2011 Countryman S. This wasn't our daily driver. The mileage is only around 26000. Car is out of warranty due to age not mileage. An indicator light came on recently about the brakes. So we made a few calls to dealerships and local MINI and BMW shops. Dealers quoted $950, independents quoted $800 or so. They all say that rotors need to be replaced automatically?!
At that low mileage can't we just do pads? We just want to do the correct thing and not pay for unnecessary repairs.
Thanks all.

Mine has 43k on it and I just replaced the rotors. Mine were below minimum to pass inspection. At that mileage I'd say you could get away with just pads. Unless your rotors are grooved or warped. The previous owner changed front pads once on mine. These things have seriously soft pads and rotors. So I upgraded all of mine to drilled/slotted rotors. And ceramic pads. So that should last awhile...

The original rotors on these CM are not so robust. My mechanic was going to turn them and I told him I would just buy new ones, after he looked he agreed that were not worthy of reusing. Front rotors from Centric were less than cheap https://www.amazon.com/Centric-121-3...centric+rotors

Btw , odds are you just need fronts done. I supplied the parts and the total with labor was $350.

ANY service shop can do the job for you. There's nothing magical about BMW/MINI brakes. You can get what you need from many of the NAM vendors and Billy Bob's car shack can install them.

Have to measure the rotors, but if they are within spec you can just put pads and a sensor or.
I'd use the EBC Red pads as they work great and are low dust

and if you need rotors we have some of our own cost effective rotors
