Just wanted to see who alls planning to make the run on Sunday.
(I know some folks will only be able to be there in spirit... but I think it might
help if we can get a feel for who's in line for the drive <g>. )
I'm hoping for anywhere between 5 and 15 MINI's , but realize it only takes
3 to make a "group" .
Oh, and heres an updated link to the map showing the route from Charleston
to the end. The previous link I had didn't factor in the drive from Charleston to
Montgomery... so the full length is right at 125 miles from Charleston. Heck,
that's only about 3 gallons of gas.... if we get a tailwind <g>
Just spoke to Elwood Blues (2008 Clubman) , and he will be joining us.
That makes 4... and I'm sure there will be others <g>... whether they
logon and see the roll call or not <g>.
He also mentioned another good possible route for us to try in the area,
RT 34 from Winfield to Kenna.
Spoke to CarCrazyWV this afternoon, and barring any problems he said
he's good to go. I'll be sending out PM's this evening to act as a reminder
to folks... assuming they log on to NAM, or check there EMail <g>.

There is an autocross at Riverside HS on Sunday. We have an open invite to participate but the group is strict on the rules so I don't think there will be much of a chance to "crash." I can get a schedule, though, if the group wants to try it sometime.
Everyone else -
Do you have a time estimate for this run? I've seen 2 hours and 4 hours? And do we have a plan for lunch and/or stops along the way?

i'd say upwards of four hours. its listed as a 3 hour round trip from charleston. so factor in any rest stops, photo ops, it will probably be 4 hours or more. i know i am up for stopping and getting something to eat. hopefully stop at the lodge that was suggested by Bucky and eat as a group with whoever wants to do such.
If we leave at Noon as planned, the driving I think will go quicker than
Mapquest calls for. I'm guessing an hour for Lunch, any extra time
would be taken up by sight seeing, whether we go to the bottom of
the Gorge, etc.
I've been to Hawks Nest enough times I'm not married to the idea of
hitting the overlook... unless someone in the group hasn't seen it.
If that's the case, I'd say by all means, stop. The bottom of the Gorge
is a blast to look at, (and interesting to drive down to <g>).. but that
stop is up to the group.
As far as time goes... if someone needs to break from the group at any
time... it's hard to get lost driving RT. 60 back... even if you've never
been there before. CarCrazyWV has something going on at 5pm, so
he may have to shag a little early.
I think it's going to be a blast... looking forward to it.
Heck, I even managed to wash and quick wax my MINI this afternoon.
(Unfortunately, now I know where all the nicks and scratches are <g>).

But if you wanted to kick back an hour there... we could meet at the rest area
at 10:30 am. It's about a 25 minute drive from there to Charleston. (I live less
than 5 minutes from the rest area myself <g>.)
I hadn't heard for sure how many were coming from Huntington..... so hadn't
planned anything concerning the rest area and a Mini Caravan from there.
(I've crawled out of bed and am slowly waking up... if you need to give me a
call, feel free. My phone number was in the last private message I sent out.)
Or at least I think it was... no coffee in my system yet, so my memory may be
faulty <g>.

ha, thats okay, I can just meet up in charleston with everyone. that'll give me more time to allow for any delays i may come across this morning. see you guys there.
I've torn up the house trying to find my camera, with no luck <g>.
I'm hoping somebody else remembers to bring one (or for that matter,
that everyone remembers to bring one <g>.)
I've packed the thing somewhere... just have to figure out where. Will
be too late for today though <g>.
Let's have fun today <g>. We'll set up driving order and the like at the
state capital complex. (I can be tail end charley... if nobody else wants
the job <g>.)

Had a great time. A quick rundown , we had a total of six MINI's make the run.
3 Coopers , 2 S models , and one Clubman S.
Ended up going to the town of Thurmond, and then to Hawks Nest for the
buffet and a quick look around. The main plan for this run was to just find
some twisties, and we definately did that <g>.
The run lasted a little longer than originally intended, but I think that's the
nature of the beast. Had a chance to talk a bit... break bread, and drive
our cars. That's what I call a good day.
If anyone else wants to break down the route we took, etc; feel free to jump
in. I'm off to find some coffee <g>.
... and to think about plans for the next run. Probably a short one to Kenna.

Had an amazing time. I planned on having fun, but the trip far exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to meet up with all of you all, and hopefully more, very soon.
I started a new thread for my pics.....
do you think the park ranger will post up his pictures? lol
