Drivetrain Countryman CAI questions?

While I was actually the first one to suggest/recommend this a few years ago, we have dyno evidence that shows a lot of loss with an open filter vs. a proper CAI like DoS or even a better filter in the stock housing.
So, take that for what you will. It certainly sounds better and doesn't cost a lot, which is why I thought it was a good idea originally.

Well, really, while I guess you could say it 'saves' money, it certainly drops the power off from pulled timing to the point where you're probably paying more in fuel for the same power level due to higher RPM required to make even stock power.
Had I not see the results with my own eyes, I never would have believed it. What fools us is the initial boost in power - while the IATs are still low, the increase is very real (hence the increase in power on all the open-filter CAIs). As the heat gets to it, though, that curve starts going sharply down. The only 'savior' of this is a very large FMIC, but even then... Another oddity of this that we found was the straight-filter on the MAF screwed with the computations. For some reason, that bend is actually 'needed' to get proper readings. I have no idea how they engineered that one, but something about the direct flow doesn't agree with it.
So, while it sounds good and is cheap (I thought it was the perfect solution before there was anything available for the R60 platform), it's a pretty significant loss in timing and subsequent performance/economy at commanded power level. :(

Heh... yeah, sort of. Just popped up that this had replies on it, and I thought, "Wow, I haven't seen that in a long while!"
Been very busy with my C7 build - up to 900whp and still going.
Need to get serious about selling my R52 and post it up here soon - I've been dragging my feet for 8-9 months with all of my health problems.
But thanks for the <3.

It draws in from the bottom of the oem intake and also the top like the others. They state that it does not fit clubman, can't see why though. It's like the the DDM street but you can get it with the dry filter and also don't have to move the MAF.
