Missourif Valley Chapter, Black Hills Rally - Oct 1-4

Saddle up Kiddies; it’s time to head out on our fall rally. 2009 marks the return to the Black Hills for the BHR 09 fall tour.

As in years past we will be camped out at the Mountain Meadows cabins north of Hill City in the valley next to the Michelson Trail. Thursday we’ll head out from Lincoln and venture across Nebraska on the scenic route that takes us from Grand Island up through Chadron, Hot Springs and then on to Hill City. Once in Hill City we will rest our weary bones next to the fire and soak our feet in the hot tubs. Friday morning it’s off to Custer State Park and the Blue Bell Lodge for some horseback riding. In the past we’ve hiked and biked so this year I figured I’d take it easy on everyone and let the horse power (of different sorts) take us on our journeys. After a morning ride we will sit in the rustic lodge for some slow roasted pulled buffalo BBQ burgers before heading out to Needles Hwy and Iron Mountain Rd. Saturday morning we will venture out on some new roads. This year everyone will get to experience Spearfish Canyon and Nemo Rd on the way to Deadwood/Lead. Once in Deadwood/Lead you’ll be on your own to walk the streets of this historic town and do some gambling if you so chose. For lunch we’ll gather at Kevin Costner’s Diamond Lil’s bar and grill for some grub before heading back out of the canyon. Saturday night’s dinner will be special at the Alpine Inn where everyone will get a filet mignon and out of this world desert from this 1883 restaurant and hotel. Sunday morning we will have brunch at the base of Mount Rushmore as Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson and Roosevelt look over us.

Of course the highlight of this adventure is the tour, or the driving of the fabulous roads found in and around Hill City. Some of the most spectacular roads I’ve ever driven are in the Black Hills. I guarantee you won’t find roads like this anywhere in the Midwest from the Loess Hills to the Rocky’s, From the Ozarks to the frozen tundra of North Dakota. We will be driving roads that dreams are made of. For a quick peek view this short video http://www.vimeo.com/5262266

The cost of this adventure is pretty much “all inclusive” with gas being your only other real expense. Most of the meals, once in Hill City are part of the cost of the “tour”. You will be on your own for the drive out and only one breakfast during the weekend. You may choose to go horseback riding or opt out. You may also share one of the cabins or stay in one of the local hotels. The club has reserved 2 full cabins that will sleep 4 couples and 2 individuals (sharing a loft) per cabin. Each cabin has laundry facilities, 2 full baths, fire place, hot tub, grill and full kitchen. I can assure you, you won’t find any other lodging with these amenities for anywhere near the club pricing. The cost breaks down like this, for just the rally with meals and park access; $116/pp. For meals, park access and horseback riding its only $151/pp. For the whole kitten-caboodle (meals, park access, horseback riding AND cabin lodging) it’s a low-low price of $253/pp.

Mark your calendar for Oct 1-4 and plan on joining the Missouri Valley Chapter for another fantastic trip to the Black Hills for fun in the twisties and a taste of our history.
