Plasma Booster...?

Anyone ever heard of this or have it?
http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...eIndexID=47621
Supposed to increase power, improve fuel economy while lowering emissions at same time. Sounds good, makes sense in theory but does it actually do what it claims to do? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated it.

Subscribed for entertainment value.

Jim

PS....Click the "Search" button below the left rear wheel of the yellow MINI above and enter "plasma booster". LOTS of stuff will be found.

I looked into it a few months ago for my '05 Cooper. Anyone I talked to said it neither improved performance or mileage.

Spend another $80 bucks and get a Sprint Booster. At least you'll be able to feel the difference.

300 bucks for a Sprintbooster? LMAO. Just spend the dough and get a tune (a real tune w/ dyno/datalogging, not a canned tune).

The OP has an R50 so all the dyno/datalogging tuning in the world won't make much difference on a stock motor.

eep. I stand corrected. $300 would be much better spent on suspension mods.

Scroll down to the Helix Ignition Cables section.

Has a good paragraph on the effects of items like this--the first half is about "HOT" wires, towards the end it covers items "which claims of increased power, multiple sparks, and better fuel economy are made." But to sum it up they say "The only "increase" a gullible consumer can expect from these devices is an undesirable increase in load on their vehicle's ignition system. "

Some LOVE them, Some say they are a waste....lots of debate, some VERY hot.

Some of the LOVERS of them are very well regarded, but have given up the fight so to speak (or are they keeping it their secret sauce so to speak?!).....at $300 it looks like a pricey way to smooth out an idle or add a fraction of a MPG or Part of a HP...just my opinion....if I get to drive a car with one before and after, I could be swayed!!

I used to have one on my car. I bought it years ago before I knew about NAM. The thing did in fact smooth out the idle and revs. MPG was unchanged. I kept that thing for about 20,000 miles until my stock ignition coil fried itself. I'm sure the plasma booster did it's fair share of shortening the part's life. I've been thinking of selling it, but everyone perceives it as snake oil.

Ahhh the old Plasma Booster wars , I remember them well. Used to sell them back in 02 and 03 as I recall but ended up getting so much grief on here that we let Mini Mania take over the sales and I think they do so to this day. Interesting product and we learned a few things about marketing from it We made a mistake and sent one to an " authority " here on NAM, he has been gone well before most of you got your Minis and he " tested " it for us . He gave it a poor rating and most people piled on afterwords and even after the president of the actual Mfg, Ignition Solutions , posted a very informative letter you couldn't tell the BS from the facts. The item under a different name and packaging has been a well received item in the BMW world for years and thousands have been sold but suddenly here in the Mini world it was snake oil. The kicker was that this was based on one guys review which after he finally sent the unit back we could tell that he never even installed it . The things I can tell you from personal experience is .

I have had it on my car for about 74,000 miles . The original coil pack was switched out at after 60,000 trouble free miles just because I was bored and liked red ( MSD ) . Does it give more HP ? Nothing you can feel really. Does it give better mileage, I can't tell because I am always changing other things and really do not record mileage . Does it smooth the ignition pulses, YES without a doubt. I can tell if it is in-line or not just by the way the motor revs. Would i take it off my car , HELL no LOL . It would not be on my top ten list of how to spend $ 300 but I do feel it was worth the $ 250 or so we were charging back then .

Thanks everyone.

Even if it does work and no problems arouse because of it's installation, I am opting towards other mods for the $300 spent.
Perhaps the tsw damper kit and an intake or drop in for better throttle response.

I'll leave the ignition alone. I'll just concern myself with stealth mods. Heh, caught the mod bug I guess. Just itching to do something for my MINI!

Sounds like a good plan or perhaps something in the exhaust area? As I said the PB would be way down the mod list .
