DIY Cruise Control

My wife has an 08 Mini Hardtop NON Turbo Automatic.

Looking to install a cruise control setup, anything like that out there? Prices? Link?

Nothing that I'm aware of.............

It's a drive-by-wire car, you'd have to hack the computer.......

It is possible to retrofit the factory cruise/radio controls. I've seen costs ranging from $500 to $1000. Here is one discussion: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...-be-added.html

True, but I don't think it's a DIYer type of job, the thread I read the poster had spent days on it and some things still didn't work............

All in all, it doesn't seem feasible as a weekend driveway job. Too bad too, as there seem to be quite a few of these cars around with no CC.......

Edit: The thread I was referring to was an earlier gen car than the OP in this thread - my bad.

They all have CC, just some of them don't have the controls.

I recall the dealer telling me the parts were 800, but I don't remember if he said labor was included in that price. If I can get my hands on the parts, I'm sure I can get it in, in a weekend.

Adding Cruise Control.........

It took many months of trying to get a dealer to help me with my MFSW (cruise control) install….it has now been working perfectly for 6 months. I heard everything from ‘It can’t be done’ to ‘You need the convenience package first’ to ‘It’s never been done’ ect. The dealer where I purchased my car (Irvine) was worthless and never any help. They quoted over $1000.00 in parts and service. Well….while I was in for my first service at another local dealer (Crevier) they programmed my car for the MFSW I had installed months prior. For anyone considering this mod, my car is a 2008 MCSa and was built in Dec of 2007. The only part/labor it needed was the MFSW (easily installed myself) and programming. I had picked up a used steering wheel several months before for $100.00, but you could purchase just the buttons and achieve the same result.

Good Luck

Hoopty

That's good news, Hoopty!

So all you did was change the steering wheel, then have it programmed by the dealer?

Why do you suppose there would be multi function wheels for sale on Ebay? Why would someone get rid of one?

Did yours come with the air bag, or is the air bag the same between the regular wheel and the MF and you just used your original one?

Yep...thats all.

The person I purchased it from replaced the standard wheel with a wood optional wheel. But he did give up the MFSW when he did it. I guess some people just don't want cruise control as much as a wood steering wheel.

If you can't find a wheel (try a wrecking yard too) you can buy just the switches and add them.

Good luck

Hoopty

SO that is it.

I have a standard 2005 cooper convertible with the factory leather steering wheel. Am I understand you correctly to say that all that is needed to add CC to this car is the switch and some programming? The switch is about 85 bucks. Is the same true for the radio functions on the wheel too?
