How easy is it to swap out an auto for a manual?

I was looking to possibly change out the transmission on mini to a manual when it goes bad, and I was wondering if any of you have gone through with this.

How difficult would it be to do? Have any price estimates?

Thanks

That isn't an easy thing to do, but it's possible...

Why / when is your 2nd gen auto going to "go bad"? I'm planning on my Aisin lasting at least 300,000 miles with proper maintenance...

If you want a manual, you're MUCH better off selling your auto and getting a manual... especially since cars with the auto sell for more $....

As has been said, while the swap is possible.... it's EXTREMELY non-trivial....

nevermind, sorry i pretty much posted in the wrong forum (i have an 03) but i'm going to be keeping the car the way it is, even though it is an automatic....

I'll be getting an S later on down the line, and i'll make sure its a manual

Hi, new to the forum. Just got an '03 with a bad auto trans. I'd rather have a manual, anyway! Has anyone out there given this a shot? Thanks, Baz

As I said two posts ago... extremely non-trivial. You're better off to get rid of the 03 auto you just got and just get yourself a manual... really...

As these cars are computer controlled there will be other modules that will need to be changed as well as the transmission.

Yes it can be done but are you willing to spend as much on the change as you probably spent on the car in the first place. That is if you bought it with a bad transmission.
