Automatic MINI

I have regretted buying a plain mini with an automatic, as I didn't know how to drive a standard the time I bought it. Now I can drive a manual, and I keep wanting to shift everytime I get in that car

I'm looking to do a couple horsepower upgrades...kinda trying to decide if the car is even worth keeping. There's nothing fancy about the car, i bought it wanting a mini, but i really should have bought a manual

What are your guys' experiences with the automatic in a non-S mini? I'm getting kinda bored of it, and I want to do something new

Any recommendations?

I also was going to buy a automatic, so took the weekend and ended with manual, again...plus the auto have had so many issues in the past and cost 8K to replace :(

I got mine knowing I had to share with my wife.
I figured I would hate it.

Turns out, I acually love it!

I do use the manual shift about 3/4 of the time
(I dont really rev it up)

I do understand what you are saying though.
I didn't get mine as a race car, but as a zippy commuter.

Perhaps you're thinking of the CVT transmission? In the R56, the transmission is a 6-speed Lepelletier manufactured by Aisin. The only problem I have ever seen reported here on NAM was this one, which turns out to be a steering wheel mechanism problem.

I have put 25K+ miles on mine without any trouble whatsoever.

Sport/Steptronic "M" mode is where I spend most of my time. I also like Sport in automatic "DS" mode; it usually makes better and faster gearing choices to remain in the power band than I do myself.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to keep the car, and look to get a manual S later down the line, maybe in 2 years or so. but i think this car will hold me over till then.

I'll just do an intake and exhaust mod along with some exterior mod's to really dress it up. i was going to tint the rear 3 windows and get some nice black powder coated wheels. (its an all black car)

Thanks for the input. I'm really thinking about keeping the car and doing a couple mods to dress it up and improve hp performance (like the common intake and exhaust mods).

I was also going to get some new wheels (black powder coat) and tint the back three windows...which would really dress it up being an all black car

SORRY DOUBLE POST - COMPUTER PROBLEMS

Have you ever had any problems getting it back into the regular "D" drive mode. My 2006 is stuck in the M/S mode, even though I can move the shifter to the left and right, it won't come out of the M/S mode.

Any advice?

When you decide to get a new Mini I recommend a manual transmission. They are so much fun to drive and the shifting is very smooth and easy!! Automatic or Manual you can't go wrong in a Mini

2006? That would make your MINI the first generation; and your AT the CVT. Try the 1st gen MINI forums, or your dealership.

They replaced the CVT with the non-CVT 2005 up, I believe.
