fill plug for tranny fluid on r56 nons?

I know that the car is lifetime on the tranny fluid. But does anyone know where the fill plug is? is it on the driver side behind the wheel well, or more towards the firewall? I see the two drain plugs, but haven't seen a picture of the fill plug yet on this site.

I changed my fluid out the other day.

#1 thing ... take out the fill plug first, since if you cannot get it off, you do not need to drain the oil !!

The plugs are on the driver side. Get the car up on a lift or ramps and look from the passenger side towards the driver side. The plugs are not too far from the firewall and are about 4 inches apart. They take an 8MM hex head, I think.

Fluid capacity is a little less than 2 quarts.

do you have an auto or manual?

about the two fill plugs that are towards the fire wall, thanks. I finally found them. But how did you get to the fill plug towards the passenger side. It's pretty tight, and was wondering if its any online site you got your tool. the 8mm allen, I have one but not as low profile. If you could recommend thanks. Oh, one last question why would they have two different fill plugs? Does it reach a different compartment. Or can i just fill up from one. Did you leave the overflow plug open while filling?

On my '07 MC manual, here is what I see / did ...

Looking at the car, from the drivers side to the passenger side, there are what appear to be three plugs, with two on the top and one on the bottom. LEAVE THEM ALONE !!!

Looking the other way, from the P side to the D side, there are two plugs that point to the tire, not the firewall (but are near the firewall). They take an 8mm plug.

I had the use of a lift, that made it so easy. Doing it at home, I'd drive the car up onto a pair of roll up ramps, and then (preferably) jack the rear up and put another pair of ramps under the rear tires, so it's level and you can get underneath. I would not trust jacks or jack stands, but that's your call, as it's a really bad result if the car falls on you ...

I used an 8mm hex plug and a flex head, 10" long, 3/8's inch wratchet to break the plugs loose. You could get a set of hex plugs as Sears, or maybe HomeDepot, Lowes or Walmart. Break the top one loose first, so that you know that you can refill the transmission. It takes a little less that 2 quarts to fill it.

You can fill it with a funnel and a tube (coming from the top) or use a gear box oil pump to fill it from the bottom. Mini sells the gear oil for about $130 for 5 quarts. Redline and royal purple sell a compatible product.

hope this helps ...
steve
