How much should I drop it?

I have new rims (18 x 7.5 on 215/30/R18) and the wheel gap is pretty sad. My friends say I need to drop it and I can not agree more, but by how much? Her current distance between wheel and plastic skirt is about 2.5 inches. So i was thinking dropping it around an inch, but would it be better off going more? I dont plan to rip around a race track every weekend, but I do like to have fun on the road when no one is around. Here is a current picture of her:

I want her to be low, but not too low. Is it best to go for a new set of springs, or coilover shock set?

I have the same size wheel and using 215-35-18 tires. I have the H-sport springs on mine and it sits about right for me. They will drop it about 1-1/4'' front and back. At least it did on mine. No rubbing issues even on the track some. Coilovers would be the way to go with all their adjustablility but they get pricey!!!

TSW springs here and they drop it about an inch, much lower and you end up with very little travel left, but it's what ever floats your boat.
