belt tensioner tool

Does anyone know if the tool used for the belt replacement in the cooper-nonS is the same tool used for the 'cooperS'? Thanks
JR

No it is not...the cooper S tool has two dowels sticking out to engage the tensioner assembly versus the "V" shape of the Non s tool

I understand the Cooper engine uses a standard serpentine belt tool, availabel from most stores. I have a K-D version purchased from thetoolwarehouse.net (although I haven't had need to try it on a MC yet). I'll have our MCc in the garage tomorrow evening and I'll try to remember to test it.

Ratchet as belt tool

Me too. It's a tight fit but a Craftsman ratchet fit right in there and works fine.

Here's a neat trick. Use a 3/8 drive breaker bar, the head is smaller than a ratchet head making it easier for you.

That harbor freight tool is nice, but doesn't work well. Since the handle is so long it usually hits the motor mount before you have enough tension off the belt to lock the tensioner in place.

Very true. I used a loaner tool identical to the Harbor Freight tool to do mine, and actually ended up having to come up from underneath through the wheel well in order to move the tensioner enough.
