Italian Job Mini

I just discovered that the '63 Austen Mini driven by "Stella" (Charlize Theron) in the movie is in the Imperial Palace Auto Collection in Vegas. Free with Internet coupon (For those coming to AMVIV)

does this look like a '63 to you?

Does this look like a '63 to you?

At least the Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB.COM) got it right:
"The red Mini Cooper driven by Stella at the beginning of the film is a nod to the Mini Coopers from the original The Italian Job (1969). It is a vastly different model to the one featured in the original, though, being a late Rover-produced model made in the late-'90s, not an Austin Mini Cooper Mk1 as was used in the original film."

Seeing this car actioned on the JB tv show was the last time I watched that piece of fiction. Those 'experts' called the car a genuine '63 despite shoulder belt, airbags, 12 inch wheels (or are they 13's) head rests, the wrong dash and a fuel injected engine. A re-VIN to get it in the states I suppose.

Interesting car - has value due to the movie connection - but a 63? no way.

Definitely not a '63 mini. It's gotta be a Mk VI or MK VII mini produced after 1991. Just take a look at the internal hinged doors, side mirrors, sports pack flairs. I have to agree that it was re-VIN to get it in the states.

I'll admit I know nothing about the original mini...I was just quoting what the sign said...and may have remembered it incorrectly.

Either way, the actual car is for sale although I forget the asking price.

If I remember correctly, this car was up for sale not too long ago. Will be interesting what it goes for.

There was a MKI S that sold at Barrett Jacksons this past weekend for somewhere around $30K. Great looking car but that is a ton of cash.

OP - no bash to you - I rec' you were just reading the sign

That BJ show may have been a rerun - this car sold at the BJ action last year for over $30k - with some movie posters. They said - I heard it clearly and watched the episode more than once - that the car was a 100% original '63; driven in the remake. MKiv body, big wheels, fuel injection etc etc not withstanding. ....yep that's the car in Norm's link. The one they auctioned and got I believe it was $32,000. And now this authoritative mus' says '63. Amazing.....

This car was part of some other 'sub plot' they had going on but it was clear the car was incorrectly represented. Makes me wonder how much of the show is BS.

Maybe a fully restored 'good car' sold this year. Turky's has a $35k Mini on their site right now..... But BJ sure blew it on the 'new IJ' car as is the Vegas display 'twould appear.

Theron's Mini sold last year...not pricey, imho, (there's guys that'd pay that just for the driver's seat)...hell, you'd pay $16K to $18K for the car without any "provenance"

The BJ 66 Cooper S sold yesterday was the dog's bollocks, pictured in 7 Enterprises materials....it rated 98.6 point resto...worth every bit of 35,200

Sin MINI,

I like that little bird in your signature! I can tell you are a person of superior intelligence, good taste, and great accomplishments!

At AMVIV IV, look for an '04 MCS, Indie Blue/White/Union Jack, Calif plate "DBCUUPR", with one of those birds on the back window - I'll buy a round!

That Theron Mini was purchased from the movie studio for $6,000 originally. If you remember the TV show where the people had to go out & buy classic/specialty cars to resell & make money from? This Mini appeared on the show. It was dq'd because they then realized it was a hell of a lot newer than 63....

Capt.... The Mini at BJ that I was refering to was the one that sold just recently That Minimad is refering to. Amazing looking genuine car. Can't argue with the money paid as you will not find a better example. That said, its good to see that some of the crazy money spent on classic's in general is oozing into the Mini realm as well.
