Can anyone suggest what the best way would be to replace the speedometer cable? I just brought my Mini home from getting my head gasket fixed and the stupid cable broke on the way. DOH!
Thanks,
Mike

Remove it from the back of the speedo to see where it broke. Speedo end or trans end. If speedo end you might be able to pull the cable out of the housing & slide a new one in. If it broke on the other end, you'll need to separate it at the trans to remove the broken piece.
Removing the cable housing from the trans is one of the major PITA jobs on a Mini. Removing the LF tire helps somewhat. There is no easy way to do it. Its is the last thing you remove when pulling the motor & first thing connected on installation. Only way to get some extra room is to loosen the mount on that end & lift the motor. Of course, centering/reinstalling the mount is also a PITA. Or pull the bolt to separate the mount bracket. If you lift the motor with a jack, place a board under the trans.
