TAG DECODE PLEASE

I am appraising a 67 Austin MK II Mini Cooper S. I have found a riveted-on RED tag bearing these numbers:

2-508 - 596A

Can anyone decode these for me? Thank you.

What portion of your fee are you willing to pay Mr Appraiser?

Those numbers mean the car was once owned by the Queen and driven by the actual 007...... or maybe not....I could be mistaken....

Doing this for a friend's estate on the cheap for his widow. Nothing to share. Thanks for responding.

if you don't know what the red tag carries I seriously question your qualification

btw are you even sure this IS a 1967 MK II and not a re-vin .... ??

ever heard of people ordering VIN or COMMISSIONING plates off the web?

http://www.rarebits4classics.co.uk/F...der%20form.pdf

what year/model would you like YOUR car to be????

A pop rivited VIN or commission plate is a very hard sign of a re-vin for illegal import...... is the plate in the 'factory' location????

an accredited appraiser doesn't know this? .... guess I've been right questioning the qualifications of appraisers that have approached me at car shows....

I'd like to help dude but I have a problem with people over representing themselve's . . .

A couple of more steps thru a Google search will probably answer your question tho . . .

you R looking at a commisioning plate I do believe .....

Capt bj:

That's correct, the Serial Number is: C-A2SBL-1068673A.

And, BTW, I make no claim to being an expert as concerns BMC mini's of any caliber. My job is to witness, identfy and value. Have done that for race cars, houseboats and the road-going prototype of a flying car - among other things. Check my cred at www.autovaluz.com.

Joined this blog was so that apppraisals of mini's would be optimized for accuracy. My first obligation is to serve the client with professionally executed, accurate reporting. Best way for me to do that is communicate with the MINI experts - you folks. Any help you can provide will be appreciated and - at some point - reflected in the classic mini market as well.

And when the opportunity presents itself I will add to the discourse.

Thanks again,

Pictures of the car are worth more than 1000 words in this case

Understand your desire for pictures. Confidentiality agreements restrict that. Following my exchange with the dreaded "Capt bj" I looked around more on NAM and found the needed information. Someone (people) has/have gone through significant effort to gather the "bits & pieces" concerning these really great cars. The result is a resource of amazing depth. Sincerest thanks to all involved.

The completed report was delivered to my friend's widow yesterday.

Thank you!

I agree with the Capt. If someone is getting paid for info, then ask for info that he is getting paid for. Well that doesn't seem right? I am all for helping people out but it doesn't feel right.
