many have two flashers esp early '4 way'

one for the turn sigs

another for the 4 way

my 79 has this...

your pic looks like an early flasher unit (play around MiniMania parts searches)http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/GFU2103/InvDetail.cfm

4 way is in reference to hazard lights correct? I'm pulling the hazards and the low brake pressure light so it may lead to that. I'm heading out there again to tackle it we shall see

4 way = hazard flasher

and note that both 2 prong and 3 prong flashers were used depending on the purpose . . .

they can be replaced with more modern - plastic cube - units

LUCAS smoke isn't a worry - just order the replacement part

My Mini is a '79 - it has two flashers on the firewall. One is for the turn indicators and the other is for the hazard lights.

On mine the round one is for the turn signals and the square one is for the hazard lights.

Picture of firewall....

Here is a close up of the round flasher.....

The Haynes manual has some good wiring diagrams. The wiring diagram on the Mini 1000 shows device #25 as the turn signal flasher and #154 as the hazard lights. I used the wire colors to tell the difference.

Good luck with the wiring.......

Well, after looking at pretty much EVERY wire in the book in Haynes, and not finding Purple/Pink and Purple/Green wiring on it, I looked at the very last one, at the pre-1977 Canada 1000 and its the ignition key audible warning buzzer! Some stuff to rip out!
