interesting reading from our friends at MOSS:

Ethanol in Gasoline and what it means to you

Why Should I be Concerned?
There will be more problems for the owners of Classic British cars, because

Interesting article. Thanks.

It tells me to continue buying premium and drive my Mini more often. I can live with that!

I agree that according to this article that seems to be an excellent plan for a classic which I TOO will work to follow.

Mine hasn't been out for two weeks tho as I've been refinishing the wood from the RoKee dask kit and so a drivin I must go soon.....

(nothing stopped me from driving w/out the dash wood 'cept I know that's what catches some people's eye and I'd HATE for them to see wires, DynaMat and my custom welded glove boxes while the wood facing is out.....)

The real question is has anyone noticed any problems due to this yet. Depending on which state you are in they have been doing this for a few years if not longer and you probably never knew. I think you can still get the old fuel at certain stations if your state has not mandated 100% e10 fuel.

PA now requires the station to disclose that the fuel contains ethanol on the pump but I think we are 100% e10 anyway.

The gas stations around here have a sticker on them that says "Gasoline contains at least 10% ethanol"

Our Government is really stupid and greedy

The *%^$$# Idiots that decided to use our food supply to power the cars are either not informed properly or they all have a nice large share of stock in the corn industry or something. GREED,GREED, GREED. but ethenol actually lowers the miles per gallen a car will get without the ethenol in it. Using ethenol in the gas is just plain stupid and wasteful. People are starving and can't afford to eat or feed their children properly but our stupid greedy government officials use our food supply for fuel so they can get richer. I think we need a letter writing campaign to the President to get a change in this ethenol policy. Mr. Obama promised us change's so this should be one of them.

As much as I think we elected a bunch of idiots again, the government isnt the problem. They can make ethanol from just the stocks of the corn and leave the food part. They can also make it out of coal and theres even a company out there that can make it out of garbage. It just so happens that corn without sepearating the food part is the most convenient way to make ethanol at the time being.

No matter what you use for energy theres someone somewhere not going to be happy. I don't think the government is going care if a couple hundered classic mini owners are ticked off because they have to run e10 fuel.

around here the big complainers are boaters and lawn service folks. LS folks say small engines like weed wackers and blowers get trashed fast by the ethanol and boaters say the same thing...some motorcycle folks too. boaters may become the significant lobby group on this.

Several marinas in the area advertise that they have ethanol free fuel, and a few land side suppliers too. It is being advertised as recreational fuel.

back in the early 80's I lived in the mid west and stations began to carry gas-a-hol. I ran it for several years in both my Honda bike and a fuel injected Audi with no ill effects experienced.....

The boats I can understand because any type of alcohol and water don't play well together. If anything they could make special fuel to sell at the docks and sell the junk fuel everywhere else. I guess you can always stock up at your local marina if that was the case.

I suspect the lawn equipment is part due to ethanol, part due to the new oil standards and part due to the small engines they make today are crap. I have been mowing with my 1973 lawnboy using e10 fuel for the last few years and its no worse for the wear.

I'm no proponent of ethanol but I think we are stuck with it. Its better to learn to live with it than to complain about things we cant control.
