Ah, so in theory, Wal-Mart should have the filters. Good. Readily available so I can have it done before I leave

You probably will want to pick up some lead fuel additive once you get there. It probably hasn't had the valve seats put in for unleaded gas. Wal-mart usually has that as well.

As for the filters I prefer the Wix or the napa gold, which are both wix filters. The ones you get at wal-mart are made cheaply so they can be sold cheaply although I guess a cheap filter would do in a pinch. I use the wix filters in all of my vehicles and they seem to be significantly heavier than the cheapo fram filters when you pull them off. Which tells me that they are doing a better job filtering crap out.

"Will I be fine on the trip home?"

There are ono guarantees with a used old car.....so AAA membership with at least 100 miles tow is a must. There are an infinite number on things that can go wrong on your way home.

Still awaiting an update. I'd give Apple a call, but I don't want to be a pest, so I'll

Posting issues from work....argh! Why must they interfere with my life that way?

Anyway, check the manuals for the proper filter, it may be different than the list. Some autos took a cartridge filter, for example.

For those wanting an update Apple's friend still has not arrived, so she doesn't know any more than what she's already filled me in on. From what it sounds like she was to close on her house on Friday, but it didn't happen, so maybe they did that yesterday Anyways, while we're waiting, all this information is awesome I really appreciate it.

First, I've been told by some very knowledgeable sources that the oil filters for the AP Automatics used in the Austin America (which are larger than those used in the Mini) are no longer being made and are becoming extremely difficult to find. I believe I've found a viable solution, however, I've not personally tested it yet. However, a Register member has, and it has worked.

I've found that the Triumph TR-6 oil filter is nearly identical. The rubber o-ring that comes with it is the exact same size as the one used in the automatic filter, but the Triumph filter is about 1/8" smaller in diameter and 3/8" shorter in height. The Triumph filter does have the same inside opening where the stepped washer and large securing bolt go through. The spring inside the filter assembly that keeps the filter pressed inot position, may need to be stretched just a bit to compensate for the 3/8" height difference. See the comparison photos below for a better idea of how they compare.

Moss motors sells a conversion kit to use the regular old screw on filter. You may want to contact them once you get the car to see if it will work with the auto or not.

7ent has the cartridge filter though

Geesh... I thought she was already there just chillin' with Apple. Did you already buy your tickets and everything?

Gettin' Sappy now... I digress...

This whole thing has made me think about my Great Grammy Jean. She lived until her late '90s and she was a spunky little independent woman 'til the end. I think she was probably 4'4" (wonder where my short stature comes from? ) and although she had a tough life, making it through the Great Depression and becoming a widow with 5 kids... she had a great attitude about life. She was always my favorite Grammy.

Anyway, she had this little brown Chevette... it was her pride and joy and she loved to drive herself. She had transparent butterfly stickers and suncatchers all over her back windows so that when she drove, she was always surrounded by butterflies.

We grew up in very rural Maine so none of us knew about Mini then... we only had access to the "good ol' American cars" and Uncle Bob was the guy that fixed all of our problems (and there were always LOTS of problems!). Unfortunately the frame totally rusted out and it went to the recycle bin... that was when her driving ended.

Thinking about this 85 year old Grandma turning over her pride and joy Mini makes me wish that my Great Grammy Jean was still alive to see the MINI or Mini. I'm sure it would have made her smile. I miss her.

Ok... back to eating popcorn! (Or Guinness if you like )

I think Apple had anticipated her coming over on the weekend, then something happened with the closing of her house. So if that's the case, I hope everything came together yesterday or today...

Nope, haven't bought the tickets yet. I had the plastic whipped out the first night this was posted, but Apple informed me not to buy them yet. I'm glad I haven't, otherwise, I'd be sitting in Florida right now I'm patiently waiting. Figured I wouldn't call or write her until tomorrow to see if there's an update. I hope in the end it all works out.... I can still fly out Thurs. or Fri at this point. If not, it'll be next week... if everything still comes together (thinking positive, thinking positive, thinking positive, thinking positive) .

Are you serious.................

He says:

"I have a old friend Like a grandma to me who is sweet and thoughtful, I told her i loved Minis, so she is driving her 1 owner classic down to me, i think she said it is a 1979, it pretty mint and low miles, she is a sweet old lady, but I have no room for it or interest in old minis.

If some one wants it please let me know I am in central Florida, If you pay shipping or come and get it, is yours."

Now.... I don't know about any of you, but if my grandmother, or someone "like" my grandmother gave me something, I would not be on the internet handing it off before I even got it!

In another thread, "Apple" says,

"Having owned 64 cars in 10 years, and 5 this year alone, Ibuy cars that I want and trade when i want, I dont need a loan and pay in cash, sometimes i make money sometimes i lose, who cares you cant take it with you when you die"

One word comes to mind: Narcissistic

I hope this guy gives you this very valuable Mini! But I would not dwell on it too much.

Uh oh ... you read that too?

I agree that I would have a difficult time getting rid of something that my grandma (like grandma) would give me. I hope it all works out though.

I can understand how some would think exactly what you guys are thinking. In fact, everyone of my family members and friends (I have told) don't think it'll happen. Sometimes, things happen that are way out of the ordinary. I just hope this would be one of those times, so I remain positive and look for the opportunity to enjoy this Mini for years and years...

My friend, I have been working in law enforcement for the last 2+ decades. Prior to that, I spent 6 years studying terrorist training and movement in Europe before anyone knew their potential. I have a great deal of "street smarts."

I will say this, if "Apple" (whom I am told is a woman, not a man) gives you this valuable mini, I recommend that you run out and buy every lottery ticket you can get your hands on! Knowing that this person is a woman, I am FURTHER amazed that "she" has already given something away, that her "grandma" like friend is in the process of bringing "her." Come on........

If I am proven wrong, I will be the first to tell you congratulations. My fingers are crossed for you.

Thanks. I've only won one thing in my lifetime (a 10 speed bicycle). So should I walk away with a free car, then I'll have to buy a lottery ticket and see how that goes...

I met a man a few summers ago at a local watering hole. Sitting at the bar we exchanged our professions and when I expressed a "morbid" curiosity in his business, he offered to show me how it was done. Well........ I had no idea! YES, that is morbid!

Glad I will be dead when subjected to that!!!
