Triple Nickel

Had a few days of vacation to burn off before the end of the year so I hit the Triple Nickel on Wednesday this past week. This is one of my favorite roads & the weather was great - had the top down the whole way Here are a few pics.

555 is a great road & it's one heck of a good ride. Another fellow I know describes it at ODOT's rollercoaster. Thanks for the pictures.

I read on a BMW riders forum that 555 was Ohio's "Dragon" - That's how I first found out about it. Here's the link: http://www.bmwmoa.org/rally/rally05/...e/555_ride.htm

That house looks familar. Chuck, is that where I pulled over? When you had to come back and find us?

Yes it does look the same, but it's not. Where your codriver contracted her case of G force flu was on SR 225. SR 225 is way twistier with more elevation change than SR 555. We didn't drive SR 555 that day. Maybe next time.

Works for me. I wonder if the codriver is interested?

Thanks for the pics. That is one of the areas I have still never checked out & I know a ton of the great roads in our region. You should join the club at Cincinnati MINI on Jan 27th for the 2007 planning meeting (free catered event) & bring those photos along. Do you ride as well?

Alright now, for the rest of us, where is this famed Ohio Dragon? I am guessing somewhere in the Cincinnati area?

If you look at an Ohio map the area you want is bordered by I 70 on the north I 77 on the west & the Ohio river on the east & south. Too many great roads in that area to list. SR 555 is east of I 77 & south of I 70. It runs south out of Zanesville down to the Ohio river.

The Ohio Dragon is St Rt 555 - Here's the write up: http://www.bmwmoa.org/rally/rally05/...e/555_ride.htm
Here's a map: http://www.bmwmoa.org/rally/rally05/...de/555_map.gif
It basically runs from St Rt 50 near Parkersburg WV to Zanesvill Ohio near Columbus. It taks about 2-3 hrs to get there from Cinci.

I don't ride anymore (sold the bike for the Mini..). I do get the Cinci Mini emails & belong to the group. I also went to the group gathering at Quaker Steak & Lube in Milford in Aug 2006? I don't recall info on the 27th's meeting - but I could probably go? Do you have more info?

Makes me think of the Italian Job tunnel sequence, with a Dukes of Hazzard twist. Nice photo, also the pavement shot.

It's off of SR 800 south of Woodsfield. SR 225 heads SE to Sardis on SR 7. (Be careful both SR 225 & SR 536 are very unforgiving of mistakes). Take a left to SR 536, then head north to SR 78. Turn west & follow it back to Woodsfield. Now follow SR 800 south to catch SR 26 then follow SR 26 south to Marietta. Gas & lunch in Marietta then head west on SR 7 through Belpre, just before Little Hocking turn right on SR 555 & head north to Zanesville. You'll be pretty pooped after the drive, but it's worth it. Once in Zanesville seak out Tom's Ice Cream Bowl.

We really need to get more local MINI owners active in our club!
