it may not be a "bad deal", I just want a better deal. I pricelined the hotel, and the parking is now 1/2 of what I'm paying for the 4 star room. LOL. think they would let me bring the MINI in the room? LOL
Yeah parking is the most expensive part of being down town. If you want to park the car up here by me and take the train in that would only cost you a couple bucks for you and the lady to ride in CTA style!
Thanks for the offer, but I dont think she would like that. If we were staying two nights, I'd take the metra in and out, but it's only a one night stay. I'm sure I can find cheaper parking once I get there.
It is possible to find street parking around there (not easy, but possible) if you are willing to walk a few blocks. I can usually find something on Ontario.

Pay the $38 + the tip or parking @ the Hotel!!! I mean do you and karen want to walk possibly a few blocks with all your stuff? No. Just tell yourself that it is all part of the experience.
If it were a weekly or monthly thing then, yes find cheaper parking, but is this not a special weekend?

Not only willing to walk a few blocks, but invest some time to drive around. But yes, it is possible.
What about the Northwestern garage? Is that open to the public? (I've only parked there whilst visiting a patient.)

Hey guys, pardon my butting in, but fwiw, I'd pay the $38 and not even consider street parking. Are the streets safe enough to leave your MINI sitting out? I'd be reluctant to leave my MINI overnight on the streets of any large city, including my not-so-large town of Kansas City. (It is annoying that downtown Hotels always nail you for additional costs- $6 water, $25 internet, etc.).

Hey Dimini, That area is safe, and the hotel is only getting $9 more than the lot a blk away. Yes, I'm a cheap SOB, but given the rain forecast I will park at the hotel. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and ribbing. Plus it's $38 for 24 hours, so even after I check out of the hotel we can leave the MINI there and walk the Mag Mile.
I know of a garage that has weekend rates ($8), but it's not close to where you're staying (Kinzie and LaSalle), and I'm not sure if that rate allows overnight parking.
It would be a bit of a walk, but I think you can get 24 hours at the garage under Millenium Park for $20. I haven't been to that garage in a couple of years, and I've heard that their rates have gone up since the city sold it to a private firm, but it's a possibility.
There are plenty of garages in your area. I'd bet if you drove around looking at the rate signs, you could probably find something for $30. And in the process, you might find a meter. Word of warning, though, the city checks meters on Saturdays and they start at 6am.
Thanks for the tips Jeremy, but given the cash I just paid for my CF Hood, I guess I'll pay the hotel fee. Plus I can leave my car at the hotel parking lot even after I check out while shopping the mag mile.
A couple weeks ago we did nights on Michigan Ave. Paid $1.50 per day to park...at the Schaumburg Metra station. Couldn't bring myself to pay $38 per day for the agrivation of driving downtown.
